VERY FINE EARLY THIRD MODEL COLT DRAGOON REVOLVER SERIAL NUMBER 11839 FOR 1851.

SN 11839. Cal. 44. Blue & color case hardened with 7-1/2″ oct to rnd bbl, German silver front sight and 1-line New York City address. Left side of frame has a tiny “COLT’S PATENT” over a tiny “U.S.” and a large “T” inspector initial forward of trigger guard and fop flat of bbl at breech and backstrab web, smaller “O” inspector marks on trigger guard, backstrap, bbl and cylinder. It has usual 6-shot cyl with panels “MODEL U.S.M.R. / COLT’S PATENT” surrounding the SN along with the Dragoon/Indian fight scene roll markings. Mounted with wonderful varnished, highly figured, deluxe 1-pc walnut grips ares not a military feature, so likely a rejected U.S. contract revolver. PROVENANCE: Bruce Burtner collection. CONDITION: Fine. Bbl retains strong traces of orig blue with excellent edges and perfect markings. Matching loading lever has faint traces of case color. Wedge does not match but is orig Colt No. 9067. Cylinder has nearly all of its scene with strong model U.S.M.R. Colt’s patent marking and all 6 pin safeties are intact (very unusual). Frame is marked U.S. as noted and case color has faded to gray but shows no rust or pitting. Hammer has very minor erosion on left side. Arbor matching number 839. Varnished grip has most orig varnish a few minor mars on left and right side. Screws are very fine. Bore is excellent for a Dragoon and will clean better. Action is extremely tight. SN 3114. Cal. 44 Henry. 24-3/8″ full oct bbl with standard front sight. Address on bbl properly marked with Henry patent “OCT. 16 1860 / MANUFACT’D BY THE NEW HAVEN ARMS CO NEW HAVEN CT”. Henry ladder sight in rear of bbl marked “900 yds”. Magazine tube integral with bbl. “HC” on right side of receiver. “CGC” marked on bbl. Straight grain American walnut. Bbl retains dark grey on bbl flats and magazine. Ding evident on left and right sides of receiver indicate side plates have been removed. Right side of receiver is deep mustard color. Carrier lifter retains deep mustard color. Matching numbers on inside of bottom of lower tang, top of stock channel and toe of buttplate. PROVENANCE: Bruce Burtner collection. CONDITION: Very good. IMPORTANT CIVIL WAR 1860 HENRY RIFLE INSCRIBED “A.ROGALL”, CAPT. OF CO. G, 54TH OH INFANTRY, ALSO 27TH & 118TH U.S. COLORED INFANTRY.

SN 4834. Cal. 44 Henry. Standard Henry rifle with 24-1/4″ octagonal barrel, integral magazine tube and early 1st type German silver front sight blade with round top and 2nd type 900 yard Henry ladder rear sight without slide stop screw. Marking on bbl is two line Henry rolled die marking, SN placed on top flat behind rear sight. Brass receiver on left side is hand-engraved “A. ROGALL”, in large period script. Stock is of American straight grain walnut with sling swivel mounted on left side and pronounced “Henry bump”. Front sling swivel mounted in the fluted portion of bbl and magazine tube. Buttplate is of brass and is of the first model type with trap. Florien Albert Rogall de Salmonski was born in Russian Poland May 4, 1824. His family was of Polish nobility, and his father was a Colonel in the Polish contingent serving under Napoleon. In 1851, Rogall came to the U.S. and was naturalized and lived in Cincinnati, Ohio, as an art teacher. He married Anna Jemima Mooney on March 7, 1860, and had three children. He enlisted in the 54th Ohio Infantry on October 11, 1861, and was promoted to Captain March 20, 1862. He fought in the battles of Shiloh, Corinth, and Chickasaw Bayou. On April 16, 1964 he was mustered in as Captain the 27th Regiment U. S. Colored Infantry in Columbus, Ohio. The 27th U. S. Colored Infantry was ordered to Annapolis, Maryland to join up with the Army of the Potomac who were gathering there. Rogall was very vocal in the harsh conditions and treatment of officers and troops and is chronicled in his Civil War diary (April 1864-April 1865), where he expresses his homesickness and disenchantment with military service and comments on the U.S. colored troops and military medical care, in very direct language. Accompanied by information about Rogall’s service history and infantry units. PROVENANCE: Bruce Burtner collection. CONDITION: Very Good. Bbl retains 70-80% dark patina with orig blue mixed in with it. Rear bbl sight is also of a dark patina with orig blue in protected areas. Side plate on left side has dings on the top edge and fits receiver very well with a deep, dark, mustard colored look. Receiver shows normal use with receiver edges somewhat rounded on the bottom and sharp lines on top on both left and right sides of receiver. Period inscription is legible. Hammer and lever retains dark patina. Stock is sound with numerous impressions and dings has some scratch marks around mounting of sling swivel. Right side of stock would indicate more light gouges and surfaces scratches with a dark area of wood to rear of stock. Screw heads all retain an unused condition all but two that are buggered up. Bore has medium to heavy pitting throughout but still retains strong rifling. Cycles properly and mechanics function well. 52913-1 MS (22,500-32,500) – Lot 1427

OUTSTANDING HENRY MARKED EARLY WINCHESTER 1866 RIFLE WITH FACTORY DELUXE FIGURED WALNUT STOCK.

SN 21680. Cal. 44 Henry. 24-3/8″ bbl. Full length magazine. Standard forward bbl sight with German silver insert. Rear sight is late Henry type sight with 900 yd. Receiver is brass. Loading gate with nitre blue. Stock is fancy grain American walnut stock. Forearm with no burl but straight grain wood. Equipped with sling swivels on stock and forearm cap. Crescent brass buttplate. All numbers match in upper channel of stock and buttplate. PROVENANCE: Bruce Burtner collection. CONDITION: Fine overall condition. Bbl retains 80-85% blue with balance turning patina. Magazine 70-80% blue with light surface rust. Balance of magazine tube finish dark plum. Both sides of brass receiver retain deep mustard color indicating no cleaning or polishing for a long period of time. Loading gate retains 80-90% dark nitre blue. Receiver edges are mostly sharp, indicating very little use. Side plates appear to have not been removed. Buttplate retains beautiful mustard color with no evidence of scratches or dings. No cleaning rods in buttstock of rifle. Case color on hammer in protected areas with the balance turning patina. Lever is mostly dark patina with no evidence of case color. Trigger is dark patina as well. Numerous scratches and dings on left and right sides of stock. Right side with one deep scratch within 1″ of buttplate. Stock fit to receiver is excellent with no splits or cracks. Finish on left side of stock rates at 90% with right side 93%. Left side of forearm with numerous dings and 3-4″ chip on high point next to bbl. Small chip of wood missing on left side next to forearm cap. Right side with numerous scratches and dings. Total finish remaining on forearm 75-80%. Screw heads are in very good condition appearing to have had little to no use. Nosecap screw is “buggered up”. Gun cycles and functions correctly. SN 131950. Cal. 44 Henry. 24-3/8″ oct bbl with full magazine. Standard front and rear sights. Hammer, lever and trigger are case colored. Loading gate in nitre blue. Dark American walnut stock and forearm. Stock and buttplate are numbered to gun. Accompanied by a Winchester Factory letter confirming configuration with ship date of June 27, 1877. PROVENANCE: Bruce Burtner collection. CONDITION: Fine condition overall. Brass receiver is deep mustard color on both left and right sides. Left and right sideplates fit extremely well and appear to not have been removed. Sharp edges evident on both sides of receiver. Loading gate retains 65-75% nitre blue. Hammer retains 50-60% dark case colors. Lever mostly a dark patina with no case color. Trigger is dark patina as well. Left and right sides of stock with light impressions and surface scratches with no evidence of chips or missing wood. Forearm with light impressions and scratches on both sides. SN 13634. Cal. 44 Henry. 20″ rnd bbl with bbl bands forward and rear. Forward with integrated sight. Correct rear bbl sight. Full length magazine tube. Saddle ring and stud are in place. Straight grain American walnut stock. Brass receiver. Loading gate is flat type, indicating very early first model 1866. Straight grain American walnut forearm. Matching SN’s in upper channel of stock and left side of lower tang. PROVENANCE: Bruce Burtner collection. CONDITION: Good condition overall. Bbl retains little orig finish. Most areas have turned to dark grey patina. Address on bbl is barely legible, indicating heavy handling. Magazine tube with no evident damage. Bbl band devoid of blue. Screws in both bbl bands are quite “buggered” but in place. Brass receiver on left shows scratches and evidence of hard use. Side plates appear to have been removed. Right side of receiver with scratches running horizontally to the gun with the loading gate retain 20% nitre blue. Screw heads on receiver very good to fine. Stock has turned to dark orange color with minor surface scratches and impressions. Small chip in corner of upper tang next to receiver on left side. Right side of stock with light impressions and scratches. Wood to metal fit on both sides is fine, with no cracks or splits. Buttplate fits extremely well with no major dings or gouges. SN 43073B. Cal. 44 Henry. 24-3/8″ oct bbl. Full magazine with front sight with German insert. Rear sight is late Henry sight marked for 900 yds. Equipped with sling swivels mounted on belly of stock and on bottom of forearm cap. Stock is straight grain American walnut. Matching SN’s on buttplate and stock. PROVENANCE: Bruce Burtner collection. CONDITION: Bbl retains 20-30% blue, mostly in protected areas. Balance of bbl turning dark patina. Standard front bbl sight has turned to dark patina. Rear bbl sight is mostly dark patina and latter portion is slightly bent. Brass retains beautiful mustard color. All screw heads in very good condition. Hammer has some case color on right side with the left turning to dark patina. Lever is mostly all patina. Trigger is mostly all patina. Magazine tube is 20-25% blue with the balance turning patina. Receiver has dark mustard colored look which indicates that it may not ever have been polished or cleaned. This applies to right side as well. Stock on left side has numerous dings and scratches with one impression running about 6″ forward of buttplate. Right side of stock has a few gouges, one that is deep next to lower tang. Some surface scratches. Bottom of stock next to buttplate has some slivers of wood missing, deep dings and surface impressions. Wood to metal fit on both sides is excellent with no chips or pieces of wood missing. Loading gate has turned pewter with no nitre blue showing. Left side of forearm with numerous dings and scratches with 1-4″ chip of wood missing near cap. Right side of forearm also with numerous dings. Bright shiny bore with light pitting. SN 159776. Cal. 44 RF. 24″ oct bbl, full magazine. Gun metal receiver. Crescent steel buttplate and forend cap. Bbl shows correct 2-line Winchester address rolled in front of rear sight. Front sight has a copper half-moon blade installed; rear sight is standard sporting type. SN is stamped on lower tang behind lever latch. Accompanied by factor letter confirming configuration and showing shipment on March 13, 1883, Order No. 3063. PROVENANCE: Bruce Burtner collection. CONDITION: Very good. Bbl and magazine tube show a mottled silver/grey patina with some stains toward the muzzle and light scratches and marks overall. Markings are clear. Sights are very good. Bore is dark with visible rifling. Receiver shows a mottled mustard patina overall with no evidence of heavy cleaning. Markings are sharp. Hammer and lever also show a mottled silver/grey patina. SN 152679. Cal. 44 RF. 24″ rnd bbl, full magazine. Blue finish with gunmetal receiver and crescent steel buttplate. Bbl shows correct 2-line address rolled in front of rear sight; standard sporting sights. SN is engraved on lower tang behind lever latch. Receiver has saddle ring staple holes filled. This rifle is accompanied by a factory letter stating that this rifle was orig received in the warehouse as a carbine on December 18, 1879 and was converted to a rnd bbl rifle and shipped on May 5, 1881, Order No. 25293. PROVENANCE: Bruce Burtner collection. CONDITION: Very good. Bbl and magazine tube show a deep mottled brown patina with some light dents and scratches overall, especially toward the muzzle. Markings are sharp. Sights are very good. Bore is dark with strong rifling. Receiver shows a mottled mustard patina overall with some evidence of light cleaning. Markings are sharp. Hammer and lever are a mottled silver/brown patina. Mechanics are crisp. Stocks are very good, slightly undersized and show an old re-varnish finish with handling marks and scratches overall. SN 128262. Cal. 44 RF. 20″ bbl. Blue finish with gun metal receiver and buttplate. Saddle ring is attached. Bbl shows correct Winchester address in front of rear sight. Front sight is on bbl band; rear sight is carbine leaf design. SN is stamped on bottom of receiver behind the trigger. PROVENANCE: Bruce Burtner collection. CONDITION: Very good to fine. Bbl and magazine tube show a smooth plum/brown patina with considerable traces of blue in protected areas. Markings are sharp. Sights are very good. Bore is frosty with strong rifling. WINCHESTER MODEL 1866 MUSKET WITH PROVENANCE TO THE LOUISIANA STATE MILITIA.

SN 33690. Cal. 44 RF. 27″ rnd bbl, full magazine with bayonet attached. Blue finish with gun metal receiver. Straight grain American walnut stocks. 3/4 length forend with three bbl bands. Stud front sight, ladder rear sight. Gun metal carbine-style buttplate. Sling swivels are attached. Bbl shows correct 2-line Winchester address in front of rear sight. SN is stamped on lower tang under lever to the rear of the SN “LSM” is stamped in front of the lever latch and “20/A/3” stamped behind latch. Accompanying this musket is an article written by Neill G. Carpenter telling the story of the muskets purchased by the Louisiana State Militia after the War Between the States. The markings on this musket are similar to those of the ones shown in the article. The SN of this musket is also within 600 numbers of the one pictured in article. The Louisiana State Militia was organized after the Civil War during Re-Construction days and was a branch of the Louisiana Armed Union Forces. They were armed with both the Enfield rifle and the Winchester Model 1866 musket which is confirmed by the Adjutant’s Report for 1870. Manufactured in 1870, this musket appears correct in all aspects. PROVENANCE: Bruce Burtner collection. CONDITION: Very good. Bbl and magazine tube show a deep plum/brown patina with considerable roughness at the muzzle. Bbl address is worn but legible. Sights are good. Bore is dark with visible rifling. Receiver is a deep mottled brown patina with numerous handling marks overall. Tang markings are clear and sharp. The rack mark behind lever latch is slightly worn. Buttplate is also a deep mustard brown patina. Hammer and lever both show a mottled silver/grey patina. Stocks are very good, slightly undersized and show numerous handling marks commensurate with age and service of musket. Bayonet is unmarked and retains traces of blue in the flute. Upper tang screw is replacement.Mechanics are fine. Rear of slide has un-circled Rampant Colt. Left receiver has “UNITED STATES PROPERTY” with Roman font. Walter G. Penfield inspection mark over magazine catch. Front sight is thin, tapered, rounded. Rear sight is rounded with rounded notch. Rear sight registration mark lines up perfectly. Hammer is wide spur, stubby, checkered. Grip safety has short tang. Main spring housing has typical Colt bevel. Magazine is a two-tone lanyard loop type. Stocks are Colt double diamond. Bbl has proper “P H” “horizontal” orientation. Magazine catch lock is properly slotted. Slide stop is typical Colt checkering pattern. Most Navy pistols show heavy wear. This pistol shows only moderate wear to the front grip strap and has an overall very attractive finish. PROVENANCE: Bruce Burtner collection. CONDITION: Slide right shows several dings on bottom of ejection port. Slide top and left also show minor dings. Orig stocks are near new. Stock screws are pristine with only slight edge wear. Receiver right shows only faint scratches at rear. Receiver left shows minor erosion around acceptance stamp. Small parts, trigger, hammer, slide stop, thumb safety, grip safety all excellent condition. Main spring housing shows only minor wear at the bottom corner. Front grip strap shows considerable patina. Finish is all orig and mostly present except as noted. Bore is excellent, bright and shiny. Mechanics are crisp. Stocks appear to be orig Colt double diamond type. Short, stubby hammer, short tang grip safety, flat main spring housing. Long, smooth trigger and lanyard loop magazine. Bbl is Springfield Armory manufacture marked “S P” on left lug. Factory letter shows shipment to US Navy Yard Brooklyn, NY on August 16, 1913. PROVENANCE: Bruce Burtner collection. CONDITION: Overall fair with only scattered patches of finish remaining in protected areas. Most of finish is in white. Front and rear sight have only minor dings and dents. Only scattered patches of orig finish in protected areas remain. Receiver shows patches of orig finish remaining in protected areas. Receiver left side shows minor dings around slide stop pin. Receiver right shows scratch at rear by hammer pin. Right stock shows heavy wear especially at bottom. Left stock shows moderate wear, mostly at bottom. GROUP OF 3 FINE WWI ERA US MILITARY HOLSTERS.

Two holsters for 1911 Colt’s; one has web belt with “1917” dated OD magazine holder. Third holster is rare “USMC” marked double action holster. PROVENANCE: Bruce Burtner collection. CONDITION: Good to very good overall. Holsters are all sound and solid with normal wear and scuffing.
