**EXTREMELY RARE SPRINGFIELD ARMORY 1911 2ND TYPE GALLERY PRACTICE PISTOL.

SN 500781. Cal. 22 LR. One of only 25 produced at Springfield Armory in 1919 for practice with less expensive ammunition. Based on a design submitted by J.H. Carl and modified through trials conducted by the likes of Col. Julian L. Hatcher. The conversion unit resembles a 1911 slide with integral fixed bbl and fixed sights. It has an enclosed bolt with dual checkered grasping knobs on each side and ejection port on right side. Slide is tapered with deep, tapered lightning grooves on each side. This was done to keep the balance approx. the same as a 1911 pistol. Right side of slide is marked “U.S. SPRINGFIELD ARMORY NO 24”. The “4” in this number is stamped horizontally. The bolt number “21” is on left side, visible through the grasping groove port mated to a Colt-type 1911 frame with flat mainspring housing and standard features with the small Springfield eagle on left side over “S12” and diamond checkered walnut grips. Left front side of frame appears to have had “UNITED STATES PROPERTY” reapplied over a dished area where the orig marking had been removed. Right side of frame has the lightly struck SN in the usual place and has an “S” in a circle on right front web of trigger guard. Accompanied by an orig Type 2 magazine with heavy 22 Long Rifle Cal. insert in a cut down 1911 magazine body that has been altered by having a recess stamped in one side for the loading assist button and the top edges crimped to hold the insert (SA Museum specimen is missing its mag). The insert is further secured with 2 pins near the bottom of the magazine. The chart on p. 449 of Military Automatic Pistols 1894-1920, Meadows, lists this pistol, by SN, and shows that it was initially fitted with Springfield conversion #8. Dr. Meadows, in later discussion, states that the mixed numbers undoubtedly resulted from being mixed during the numerous returns to the Armory for alteration to correct malfunctions. These pistols were first issued for testing in Sept. 1919 and over the ensuing 4-1/2 years were issued to the Infantry School of Arms at Camp Benning, GA and the Cavalry Board at Ft. Riley, KS. Over several tests in these years the pistols were deemed unsuitable for a variety of reasons and were withdrawn from testing in favor of the Ace Model pistol that was being developed by Colt Mfg. Finally in Aug. 1938 authority was granted to dispose of the 25 pistols. Dr. Meadows states “It is assumed that the pistols were cannibalized for usable parts, as was the custom, and the non-standard or un-serviceable parts disposed of.” It is unknown how many of these pistols actually survived, but only a handful are known. PROVENANCE: Transcripts from Springfield Armory Museum website records documenting the developmental stages of this prototype design from 1914-1919 and the specs of the museum’s reference example; The Esteemed Collection Of Noted Expert And Author Warren Buxton. CONDITION: Very good with dull blue, orig arsenal finish with scattered light surface spotting and one area of pin prick pitting on right side of slide. Magazine retains 60-70% strong orig blue with light wear. Grips show light to moderate wear with a few chipped diamonds. Mechanically fine. Bright bore with sharp rifling. 51568-21 LMA (6,500-9,500) C&R – Lot 1632

FINE 100 YEAR OLD 1911 COLT ARMY.

SN 218705. Cal. 45. One of the last Gilbert H. Stewart inspected 1911’s. All proper markings “UNITED STATES PROPERTY” crisp and clear. “RAMPANT COLT” sharp. Sights in excellent condition. CONDITION: Stocks show moderate wear to the bottom portion. Some crushing of small diamonds on left side. Stock screws on right show minor buggering; stock screws on left look excellent. Excellent condition lanyard loop magazine not orig to pistol; LL stopped in 1916. “HP” sharing common leg inspected bbl is from a later pistol. Bore heavily frosted near chamber. All other parts appear correct and orig. Loss of finish on front and rear grip straps. Loss of finish to patina on top of slide. For a 100 year old “veteran” with a couple of changed parts, it’s in nice shape. 51833-1 (2,500-5,000) C&R – Lot 1634

*EXCEPTIONAL CZECH BRNO ZH-29 EARLY DEVELOPMENTAL SEMI-AUTOMATIC RIFLE.

SN 10109. Cal. 8mm. 23″ bbl. Exceptionally high quality manufactured Czech ZH-29 semi-automatic rifle made in Czechoslovakia at the Brno factory prior to WWII. Visible parts appear all matching and action operates smoothly. Aside from the magazine and buttplate, the remainder of this rifle’s metal parts are machined. Was expensive to produce and although offered for sale in several calibers the only significant contracts were from Abyssinia and China. The bolt locks into the left side of the receiver only and the bbl is slightly non-symetrical and points towards the left while the sight post is towards the right side. The bolt locks to the rear and catches on the magazine follower on the last shot, however, the unique bolt design allows for the bolt to go forward when a new magazine is inserted with the pull of the trigger. The second pull of the trigger would fire a shot. This rifle is immediately recognizable with its 13-vertical finned cooling assembly forward of the wooden hand guards. Marked with standard Czech and Brno markings on left side of receiver with SN and model at top of receiver. This rifle includes one orig wide leather sling. PROVENANCE: From the Estate of World Renowned British Rifle Collector Robert W. Faris. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish near excellent with lustrous commercial blue finish starting to turn a plum color, particularly on the right side of receiver with the bolt in-the-white. Bore is shiny and bright, just starting to turn a little dark in the grooves. Wood is also near excellent with only some slight handling marks and some slight discoloration at the forward edge of the receiver. There is a noticeable 1″ x 3/4″ chip out of the stock at the rear of the heel where it meets the buttplate. This does not affect the serviceability of this rifle. An exceedingly handsome and high quality specimen of a very interesting and functional design. 51608-20 JWK (8,000-12,000) C&R – Lot 1663

*EXQUISITE AND EXTRAORDINARILY RARE WORLD WAR II M SS 41 ANTI TANK RIFLE MANUFACTURED BY CESKA ZBROJOVKA.

SN 2911. Cal. 7.92x94mm Patr. 318. Extraordinarily rare M SS 41 anti-tank rifle as used by the Waffen SS in WWII. The “PzB M. SS. 41”, anti-tank rifles were developed specifically to use the German PzB 39 7.92 x 94 mm Patr. 318 cartridge by CZ from a pre-war 15 mm design (for the 15 x 104 mm ZB vz. 60 MG cartridge) devised for the Czech Army. The M SS 41 rifles were made during German occupation of Czechoslovakia at the Waffen Werke Brunn (Brno) facility specifically for SS formations. The M SS 41 is one of the first small arm bullpup designs used in any major conflict. The unique action employs a forward moving bbl, operated by turning the trigger/handgrip group, with fixed standing breech having massive multi-tooth interrupted thread closure behind the magazine. Only about 3,000 are known to have been made with probably only about a dozen surviving examples known. This particular PzB is only 10 numbers later than a specimen which was sold in our Spring 2014 Firearms auction. Left receiver is marked with the “Z” within rifle bbl trademark of Ceska Zbrojovka as well as a very prominent and orig “M.SS 41”, a Nazi eagle/swastika firing proof, and the “SS” acceptance mark, a National Socialist Eagle over “SSZZA2” (SS Zentralzeugamt 2). The rifle is missing its firing pin, firing pin spring and part of the inner mechanism, which prevents the flip-up butt from properly latching in place. The action and bbl is packed with a taffy like consistency grease, and this rifle is currently non-fuctional due to these parts not being present. However, it retains its orig magazine, sights, bi-pod (derived from the ZB vz. 26/BREN pattern), leather carrying handle & leather reinforced padded buttstock. All exterior parts appear to match the SN of the gun. Rear sight has fracture on the left side which could be repaired. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is a combination of areas of cleaned scale on bbl from poor storage to mint unfired. Magazine retains about 85% finish, thinning to a gray patina in places. Bbl retains about 80% finish with some areas of cleaned scale revealing gray metal. Leather carrying handle extremely fine and serviceable, just starting to flake. Leather cheek pad and butt pad also in extremely fine condition starting to wear at the edges. Bore appears mint with orig grease. Mechanism also appears near mint. Bi-pod has one slightly bent left leg which could be straightened. Wooden pistol grip near excellent. These rifles are very popular candidates for making new bbls for recreational shooting. Although very scarce, the person who has access to examples or line drawings of the orig mechanism parts would be well advised to snap this specimen up as these are exceedingly interesting and well made historic specimens from WWII. 51825-1 JWK (10,000-15,000) C&R – Lot 1667

Typical mid-production Nambu type-100 machine gun with steel buttplate, manufactured by Nagoya Arsenal with typical markings “100-type” in Japanese at top rear of receiver. Rather crude yet functional welding techniques throughout. One orig non-matching mag, SN 2853. Take down latch retention screws on left side appear to have been removed and then re-seated without properly matching them to their orig holes, yet still serviceable. Extractor not present on bolt. Typical fixed rear peep sight with drift adjustment front sight. Bayonet lug present as are sling swivels. Firing mechanism moves smoothly when operated by hand, this weapon appears fully functional with the exception of missing extractor. SN 7269. Cal. 10mm. 10-3/4 bbl. This HK MP5 / 10 was built by Murray Aubaek from one of the 10mm FBI guns that were destroyed. SN 399868. Cal. 44 W.C.F. 14″ rnd bbl. Full magazine. Stepped receiver. Saddle ring attached. Blue finish. Straight grain American walnut stocks with carbine buttplate. Standard carbine sides. 14″ bbl with proper rapid taper. Accompanying this carbine is a Cody Firearms Museum letter dated 8/5/2016 confirming carbine, cal. 44, bbl length 14″, and showing shipment from warehouse on 11/16/1891. Order #15039. Carbines of this type saw extensive use south of the border and are extremely rare especially in this bbl length. 14″ Model 1873 saddle ring carbines are so rare that Jim Gordon was not able to find one to picture in his book, “Winchester Model 1873 A Tribute”. CONDITION: Very good for this model. Carbine has a mottled gray brown patina overall with some heavy pitting, especially on the bbl. The bbl was draw filed long ago to clean rust and all bbl markings have been obliterated. The deep patina shows on top of the file marks. Bbl dimensions are correct for this bbl length. Forearm is 7-5/8″ long which is also correct. Forearm matches the bbl taper. The stepped receiver is also correct for this type of carbine. Carbine sights are good. Ladder sight is marked 1873. Bore is dark with visible rifling. A saddle ring shadow is present over the gray patina. Upper tang mark is legible and sharp. Elevator has been polished and cleaned and is developing new patina with numerous scratches and dents overall. SN is washed out but legible. Dust cover is correct. Stocks are very good, have been lightly cleaned and show numerous handling marks overall under a coat of varnish. Sling swivel mortise is present at bottom of buttstock. This is an opportunity to obtain the rarest of all Winchester Model 1873 Trapper Carbines. 51724-2 TEP (13,000-15,000) – Lot 2005
