His head rests against the canvas and his eyes are closed. The large artist’s pallet which holds large dollops of paint and paint brushes has tilted down and paint and a brush has hit the floor. The painting that he was working on is set on a large wood easel and shows a young woman holding a lantern above her. ABRAM LOEB (American, First half of the 20th Century) FOUR PIECE MURAL. Abram Loeb headed the art division of Old Mr. Boston Distillery in Boston, Massachusetts. He was responsible for all illustrative works dealing with the company and was under their hire. This mural descended through the owner’s family. The works are unsigned and may or may not have been used in the distilleries promotional campaign. The mural has been divided into four panels and housed in simple stained wood frames. The following oil on canvas laid on fiberboard panels are described left to right in the mural 1)17-1/2″ x 58″ panel shows a large farm with haystacks and man filling a hay wagon. Left side depicting two men, one teaching a sporting dog within a scroll border. 2) 17-1/2″ x 68-1/2″ shows the farm with farmer next to haystacks looking to a stagecoach with people and four horse team. 3) 17-1/2″ x 74-1/4″ shows a group of fox hunters on horses returning to the tavern where they are being presented with mugs of beer. A landscape scene is seen in the background with a large house. 4) 17-1/2″ x 91-1/2″ completes the mural having a fox hunting scene with dogs, horses and men. A landscape with trees and water. Ending in a tavern scene with men at table with steins within a scroll border. These panels would be a wonderful decorative element in any pub, tavern, home or hunting clubs meeting room.
