GERMAN TIN WINDUP CAROUSEL. A lovely hand painted 19th century toy with three Horse revolving Platform. Details include cream colored reticulated base and tent like top. All done with gold highlights. Inside of carousel features perforated facade done in light green and gold with embossed details. Toy includes two Russian cobalt blue glass Ornaments (not original to toy). SIZE: 17″ to top of flag. CONDITION: Overall paint is very good with only minor chips. As box reads “A Flashing-Roaring-Speeding Model of Buck Rogers Famous Inter-Planetary Rocket Cruiser”. A 25th Century toy patented in 1927. Box features cobalt blue background with images of rocket ship and figures in bright yellows and orange. Tin windup ship rolls forward with “Bong-Bong” noise (needs flint for spark). SIZE: 12″ long. OLD OLDSMOBILE FRICTION CAR IN ORIGINAL BOX. This is a Japanese friction car probably from the late 1940’s possibly from the early ’50’s. Its blue with an orange red pin stripe down the middle and with lots of nickel-plate ornamentation. The hood ornament is of a jet. It has old black rubber tires. It is in the original cardboard box which has a colored litho label on the lid. SIZE: 10″ long. CONDITION: Generally very good to excellent condition. The box has a 2″ break in the side. LOT OF FIVE WALT DISNEY SEEDS WITH TERRIFIC LITHOGRAPHY OF MICKEY AND MINNIE. Each package of real seed had attached to it a lithograph die-cut plant identifier to place in the ground after you have planted the seeds. These, we were told, were a special production done later in the 20th Century but the lithography depicts an early Pie eyed Mickey Mouse. SIZE: Approx. 9″ t. LOT OF THREE OLD LITHO TIN MOTORCYCLES. 1) Marked Marx motorcycle #3 with a trooper wearing red and yellow striped pants and similar hat on a yellow cycle. 2) Red friction motorcycle with rider wearing a green coat with yellow stripe and yellow pants with red stripe. 3) Smaller litho tin wind up cycle marked “PH” on the gas tank. This older style motorcycle with an ID on the right fender “I-922″. Litho in shades of tan, yellow, blue and white. SIZE: Largest approx. 8″, smallest approx. 6 1/4”. CONDITION: Smallest in very good condition with nice lithography. Working. Red, yellow and green cyclist showing wear on the paint, particularly on the top of the hat and on the blue shelf under on the rear fender. Also, handlebar is rusted. Working. RARE PAINTED “SAFE DEPOSIT” STILL BANK. This rare cast iron still bank was made by the Henry C. Hart Mfg. Co. of Detroit, MI , and so marked on the bottom together with “Pat. Appl’d. For”. This piece is black with gold highlight. The very top four panels of the bank have beautiful lithographed paper inserts of European scenes. SIZE: 5 1/4″h x 4″ w x 4″d. CONDITION: There is a crack approx. 2″ in length in the upper right quadrant on the rear of the bank. Believed to be all original paint and generally very good condition. 2-85366 (200-400)

EXTRAORDINARY 19TH C BEESWAX BLACK FOLK ART DIORAMA. This incredible deep diorama was constructed in one point in time of beeswax which has been painted. It depicts an animated scene titled “Charcoal Club of Blackville in Session”. The diorama was done by F. Lobel sometime around 1894. Six black figures in various poses stand and are seated along a table. A humorous map hangs on the wall directly in back. An absolutely phenomenal piece of black folk art. SIZE: Approx. 21 1/2″ w x 14 1/2″ t. CONDITION: Generally good. It appears that there may have been some small object on the table that is no longer there but is in generally good condition. The simple border or frame may have been cardboard at one time has now been reinforced in the back with thin strips of pine. OLD TIN LITHO MECHANICAL TOY PEDDLER WITH HIS PUSH CART. The colorful toy, probably German depicts a colorful decorated cart with the peddler dressed in a blue coat and red pants. The working spring mechanism propels the wheels. No makers marks on the toy. SIZE: Approx. 6″ x 5″. CONDITION: Some wear on the decoration including a few chips and scrapes however, generally very good. 1-27658 (400-600)

TIN LITHO WINDUP RED CAP PORTER. This wonderful tin litho toy by Strauss depicts a porter pushing a green traveler’s trunk on a dolly as a Pug dog rides within. SIZE: Approx. 6 1/4″ long x 6 1/2″ tall. CONDITION: Fading to lithography, a few dents and scratches, windup mechanism not working. 1-27583 (100-200)

WINDUP BLACK FOLK ART DANCERS. Two large 12″ wood and composition Black Folk Art Dancers above wooden box containing windup mechanism for dancing and separate mechanism for Music Box. 19th century jointed Dancers are primitive in design and clothing. Glass eyes, horsehair Wig and lead Feet. SIZE: Base: 6″w x10 1/2″l, total height 17″. CONDITION: Original clothed Figures are good. FABULOUS OLD LITHOGRAPH DIORAMA AND AUTOMATON OF ANIMATED BLACK BARN DANCE. This fabulous late 19th early 20th Century diorama, was distributed by the Parisian Importing Co. Features lithographed animated black figures doing a barn dance. Women and men dance in the doorway, musicians on either side play their instruments, a mammy in the foreground with a child sings and a horse in the stables moves with the music. Titled within the lithography in the barn rafters “Great Racket”. There is some great old lithography here. SIZE: Approx. 32 1/2″ w x 24″ h incl. frame. CONDITION: Lithograph figures appear to be in generally good condition. The mammy with the baby has a crease which may have been a split at one time and there is a separation along the scene of the lithography in the barn.. The mechanism is enclosed with a backboard and was supposedly working but at this point in time is not. Otherwise it appears very good. 1-26833 (9,000-11,000)

The tin cylinder container lithographed in colorful red, yellow, white and blue depicts a picture of the model Gabby Hayes together with images of leaping fish, etc. Enclosed is the three-piece fishing set, which consists of a steel two-part rod and a metal reel. SIZE: Approx. 24″ l. CONDITION: Graphics are generally good, however there is some surface rust and pits particularly on the lower end of the case. COCA-COLA TRAY GIRL IN YELLOW BATHING SUIT 1929. CONDITION: Generally very good. Lithography is strong, gold is almost completely worn off the edge of the rim of the tray and there is a remnants of a glass ring mark in the lower left corner by her Coca-Cola tray and a little bit of pitting in the paint in a couple of the corners, otherwise generally good. 1-27667C(300-450)

COCA-COLA TRAY THE GOLFERS 1926. A great image with a young lady and her beau after a game of golf, he pours her a glass of Coke. Lithography is nice; surface of tray is good to very good. COCA-COLA TRAY SWIMMER IN THE RED HAT OF 1930. Beautiful girl with a red, white and blue robe in a white bathing suit. CONDITION: Lithography is very nice. Some blemishes to the paint including eight or ten small areas of pitting where the deep green paint is pitted off and the light green base paint can be seen from below. The red has a finger nail size chip in the upper right corner and there are a few chips and rust spots on the gold rim of the tray, otherwise generally very good. 1-27667G (200-400)

PAIR OF OLD HANGING DRUGSTORE SHOW GLOBES. These globes, with their original aluminum metal mounts, obviously from the art deco period. The metal mounts together with their very design and the metal both indicate that. SIZE: Approx. 15″ h. CONDITION: Generally good, the ground stoppers for the tops are missing in both cases, one has some chipping around the edge where the stopper would normally go. 1-27670 (300-500)

NEAT OVAL LEADED GLASS WINDOW OF A SMALL GNOME TYPE FIGURE. The glass in the head is in shades of flesh tone with white and blue eyes. His hat and costume in deep blue all on a frosted background. GREAT OLD NEW BEDFORD SODA WATER COOLER. This great old painted galvanized cooler is really neat. It is a great advertisement for Wheaton’s Soda Water and could appeal to the marine collectors. Is from one of the sea faring capitols of North America: Bedford, MA. In addition it has a wonderful whale spouting on each side. The advertising panels are gold in the background with a black whale having orange letters and green water. “Wheaton’s Famous Soda Water, It is a Whale of a Drink”. The white cooler has a similar advertising panel on both sides. SIZE: Approx. 18″ l x 14″ w x 17″ h. CONDITION: The cooler in generally good to excellent condition. The advertising panels vary. One is fair to good the other is good to very good. The fair panel has a couple of dents and scratching on the lettering and some rubbing on the paint in places. LARGE OLD SALESMAN SAMPLE BOOK FOR CLOTHING. Produced for Scotch Woolen Mills of Chicago for 1916. This large book is filled with wonderful old colored lithography of men in various Scotch woolen suits. On the opposite page of the lithographed image are various swatches of wool in different textures and patterns. There are some great images in here and would be wonderful framed items. One plate depicts the Scotch major League Baseball uniforms with the Scotch baseball team posing. Another depicts a group of young men holding baseball bats, gloves, etc. promoting the boys Knickerbockers suit. Another depicts two dapper gentlemen in suits playing golf. Neat old advertising piece. SIZE: Approx. 22″ x 17″. CONDITION: The cover of the book is worn and faded, material swatches have some moth damage and some of the pages have some staining. LATE 19TH EARLY 20TH C FABULOUS LITHO BLACK DIORAMA AUTOMATON. This incredible 19th Century black automaton depicts a group of animated black uniformed soldiers being drilled by a black leader on horseback. The mechanism was electrified and had a small motor that when plugged in would create a considerable amount of motion. The drummer in the foreground would beat his drum marked “Skidmore Guard”. The officer on horseback would wave his sword and the marching soldiers would move. Lithographed in the background are numerous black folk watching with hens and dogs running along side. The diorama is in a deep shadow box with an elaborate gessoed molded frame. SIZE: Entire frame is approx. 39″ x 30 1/2″. CONDITION: The electric motor currently does not have a plug in device so we do not know if it works. This probably had a key wind motor originally. The lithograph figures appear to be all complete with the backboard missing. The frame with some chipping to the gesso trim. Otherwise, generally good. 1-26832 (10,000-14,000)

RARE BLACK SQUEEZE BOX PLAYER “VICHY” AUTOMATON. Spectacular black French automata. The companion to the lot below sits upon a fine velvet covered pedestal, she nods her head as she taps her foot and plays the squeeze box to the accompaniment of 2 distinct tunes. SIZE: 24 1/4″ t. CONDITION: Figure has minor scuffs, erratic movement, squeeze box in need of conservation, otherwise generally good. 1-26933 (12,500-17,500)

RARE BLACK BANJO PLAYER “VICHY” AUTOMATON. Another spectacular piece of early French automata. Sitting upon a matching velvet covered pedestal, the minstrel’s hand strums banjo while tapping his foot as his head moves about to the music. SIZE: 23 1/4″ t. CONDITION: Eyes do not blink. Clothes are somewhat frayed and re-sewn in places. Some minor scuffs, and music box, which plays 2 tunes, needs some re-tuning, otherwise generally good. 1-26932 (12,500-17,500)

JAZZBO JIM WINDUP BLACK DANCER. By Unique Art, Copt. 1921. Very clean example of this classic Dancing Negro with Banjo. Cabin below shows Mammie and child and other caricatures. SIZE: 10″ tall. RARE JAZZBO JIM ELECTRIFIED STORE DISPLAY. Believed to be one of a kind, this fabulous large animated store display is based upon the classic all tin litho, windup Jazzbo Jim “jigger” toy by Unique Art (1921). Nearly three times the size of the original toy, the cabin is constructed with tin lithographed sheets over wooden frame. As in original toy, side of cabin shows the same striking highly graphic images of Black Mammy and child. Front side shows Banjo Playing gentleman, kids with harmonica, hambones and a wide-eyed Pickanninie dancer. All caricatures surrounding cabin have exaggerated Negro facial features. Period electric motor and mechanism in cabin activate large Dancing Black Doll on rooftop. Movement is of an up, down and turning motion. Hand painted composition Doll also has appropriate facial features and is redressed correctly to match original toy. Skillfully executed, this impressive animated display touches upon many areas of collecting including Black Memorabilia, Automatons, Unique Art windup toys and Store display advertising. 19TH CENTURY CLOCKWORK BLACK DANCER. By J.M. Cromwell. Circa 1870. This spectacular rare find features a hand painted, wood jointed Black Dancer suspended above a stage-like setting as clockwork mechanism allows for dancing movement. Untiring nimble caricature tap dances in a realistic “Shoo Fly” manner. Wide-eyed Black Spectator above moves in and out of window opening with peering antics. Extraordinary toy is of a paper on wood construction with upright backdrop of stage showing Children at play, wearing period Victorian Costumes. Figures show hand made composition heads with Black exaggerated features. True American clockwork mechanism above is concealed by a scalloped edged stage curtain. All of this makes for an outstanding, skillfully rendered example of a Black genre animated toy. SIZE: Dancer 5″ tall, toy 11″tall. INCREDIBLE BLACK FOREST CARVED MUSICAL DOG. This 19th Century carved hanger is of an animated Scottish Terrier wearing a feathered cap with a shotgun slug over his shoulder. A flask held in his right paw. His legs are small goat horns with curls that will serve as a hanger for your hat. The mechanism marked on the back “C. Spiess” and has a key wind music box in the back. SIZE: Approx. 15″ h. CONDITION: Carving appears to be generally good. LARGE NODDING POLAR BEAR AUTOMATON. Charming appeal in this oversized mohair covered Bear featuring Nodding Head, counterbalanced opening mouth and glass eyes. Opened mouth reveals articulated teeth and tongue. Excellent counterbalancing and weight of bears head make for an extended nodding motion. Bear stands on molded papier mache “Iceberg” covered with small mica flecks giving a “glitter” effect. SIZE: Bear 11″ tall, overall 21″ tall. CONDITION: Windup mechanism for movement is not engaging. WONDERFUL EARLY ANIMATED BLACK BABY SHELF SITTER. The black baby with clock mechanism in the back of its head, shifts its eyes to and fro when the mechanism is activated. FABULOUS CARVED AND PAINTED WOODEN HEAD LIFE SIZE BLACK MAMMY VENTRILOQUIST DOLL. This life-size feature dressed in a red dress has a carved wooden head set with glass eyes and neat painted facial features. The upper and lower lips as well as the eyes can be maneuvered by the ventriloquist as he works with her. A fabulous piece of folk art. SIZE: Life size, probably 5’1/2″ – 6′ tall. WONDERFUL OAK MIRROR BACK CHILD’S OR DOLL’S SIDEBOARD. This terrific sideboard, probably made sometime prior to the 1029’s, has two drawers over a full-length drawer over two glass doors below. LARGE BUGLER FIGURE AUTOMATON. This fantastic Shakespearean-looking automaton may have been used in a large department store such as Macy’s or FAO Schwartz at one time. This gentleman with bugle is mounted on a large wooden box. He is electrified and is really unusual. The bugler’s belly and back open, possibly to hold a clock, like his counterpart. Composition head. When plugged in his motor makes a noise but he doesn’t seem to respond. He probably needs to have some work done. SIZE: Approx. 6’8″ t. CONDITION: Mannequin seems to be in generally good condition. Uniform is still intact and in basically good condition but soiled. One can see some parts inside but it is difficult to determine whether it just needs some adjustments or a major overhaul. LARGE CLOCK/MAN FIGURE AUTOMATON. This peculiar gentleman looks as if he could be an extra in Alice in Wonderland, but possibly a decoration for a large department store. Mounted on a large wooden box. When plugged in this clock man flags his arms up and down on either side. He has a clock built in his belly and all kinds of clock and watch decorations all over his costume. SIZE: Approx. 7’9″ t. RARE PORCELAIN KOCHS SALESMAN SAMPLE BARBER CHAIR. This leather, nickel and porcelain salesman sample for a Theo A. Koch’s barber chair is one of the most desirable of all salesman samples. These samples were made in wonderful detail and includes ornate nickeled footrest with raised relief filigree and marked “Theo A Kochs Company Chicago. The mechanism is set up with a hydraulic pump in the pedestal as the full-sized one would be. When filled with oil, it can be operated with the handle on the side. It features an adjustable spring loaded headrest. SIZE: 16 1/4″h to top of headrest and 9″w at widest point. CONDITION: The leather upholstery appears to be all original and in place except for on the headrest. The porcelain is in near excellent condition with three small repaired chips on the base. 1903 HILDA CLARK OVAL TIN SIGN. Very rare and desirable early sign featuring Hilda Clark, the famous Prima Donna. Clark exemplifies Victorian beauty, exuding an air of elegance and style, reminiscent of turn of the century Coke advertising. With a gold border of white and purple chrysanthemums, the sign is displayed in elaborate gessoed gilt frame. Chas. W. Shonk lithographer. SIZE: Image size 20″ x 16 1/2″. RARE FRAMED BULL DURHAM CONVEX SIGN. This large tin disc “Genuine Bull Durham Smoking Tobacco, Prize Winners” depicts the pretty Victorian Gibson type girl with the Bull Durham modeled bull in the center. The litho tin is decorated with a panoramic farm scene is mounted in the original frame and black wood shadow box. The discs appear from time to time but it is very rare that you find the advertising disc in its original gilt frame and wood box. SIZE: Approx. 36″ sq. CONDITION: Litho tin has some scattered small rust spots and the lithography has slight overall fading, other wise generally good. RARE BUSTER BROWN HOBBY HORSE ON FRAME. This antique advertising wooden Hobby Horse on spring mounted frame features decals on either side with the extremely popular duet of Buster Brown and Tige. CONDITION: Finish worn on the seat, footrest and appears there may have been a little bit of mane on the neck of the horse. SCARCE COIN-OP BILLIARDS GAME. The A. B. T. Manufacturing Co. of Chicago, IL manufactures this fabulous coin operated billiards game. It is titled “Billiard Practice”. This high quality counter game consisted of a miniature replica of an old mahogany billiards table. Constructed of nicely grained solid mahogany wood. You use the pistol in the end to aim your billiard ball at the various pockets. SIZE: 25″ l x 15″ w x 10″ h. CONDITION: There are a couple of scratches on the wood and the nickel plating on the pistol is worn a little bit but generally in very good condition. OUTSTANDING CAST IRON EGYPTIAN SAFE STAND OR SLOT MACHINE STAND. This outstanding late 19th or early 20th century cast iron creation has a cross stretcher support at the top in which a small safe could be placed or a slot machine. The colorful base cast with an Egyptian revival motif consisting of sphinx heads and hoof feet are painted in black, red, gold and copper color. INCREDIBLE FRET WORK STEAM LOCOMOTIVE AND COAL CARRIER. This Victorian fanciful depiction of an old coal powered locomotive is constructed entirely of elaborate fret work wood all careful and artistically cut with elaborate designs. The two piece train set mounted on wooden tracks is mounted in a custom oak display case. A small cardboard title plaque mounted inside the case indicates who the train was made by on April 13, 18??. TRAVELING HARTFORD FIRE INSURANE COMPANY DISPLAY. Unique folk art type display of firemen rushing to fire with old time horse drawn fire wagon, while several other firemen run alongside in front of village store scene. The fire wagon is constructed of wood, while human characters are constructed of wire and covered with felt. This unique display traveled around the country from agency to agency. MINIATURE MODEL DISPLAY OF A PLATFORM OF THE J.I. CASE ENGINE AND SAWMILL. Consists of a large electric engine with gears, pulleys, chains, etc. Is a model of the first steam engine built by J.I. CUSTER’S LAST FIGHT SIGN. Adolphus Busch commissioned Otto Becker of the Milwaukee Lithographic Company in 1896, to produce this illustration of the 1876 Battle of Little Big Horn and had them distributed for display in bar rooms and taverns throughout the country to promote the Anheuser-Busch name. This version is a 1930s copy of the original 1896 illustration and bears the caption “Anheuser-Busch, St. Louis, Missouri, USA”. SIZE: Overall 46-1/2″ w x 36″ h- in original frame. REMINGTON UMC TIN ADVERTISING SIGN. This tin sign appears to be new old stock and is framed in an oak frame depicting a relief design of a box of Nitro-club shotgun shells with a flying mallard. This red, green, white, yellow and black advertising sign states “Arms and Ammunitions, Complete Stocks, etc. Sault Saint Marie, MI”. SIZE: Overall is 31″ x 13″. CONDITION: Generally very good to excellent. As indicated earlier, I believe this is new old stock and there is kind of a haze on much of the sign which appears to be some kind of residue on the sign itself as a result of it having been in the paper wrapper for so long. RARE PLANTER’S PEANUT FIGURAL SCALE. This fantastic Mr. Peanut’s scale has always been a very desirable collectable. So much so that between 30 and 40 years ago, an entrepreneur made a limited number of copies. This is one of those rare copies that were produced sometime around the 1960’s early 70’s. In doing so, he made exact duplicates of the Mr. Peanut figure and mounted them on old Hamilton scale mechanisms. The tremendous cost to do this resulted in only a few of these being produced. This is an exact copy and it is extremely difficult to determine the difference between the reproduction and the original $20,000 earlier versions. SIZE: 44″ tall. CONDITION: Both clock faces have been totally restored with some surface abrasions to both sides occurring after restoration. TANLAC TONIC CARDBOARD STORE DISPLAY. Folding 3-panel display for Tanlac “Nature’s Medicine – The World’s Greatest Tonic”, circa 1930’s. Panels feature vignettes of the far corners of the earth from which its ingredients are procured. A 1916 Department of Health publication states that the “tonic” properties were closer related to the 15.7% alcohol content of this cherry flavored wine, than due to any curative medicinal ingredients. FIGURAL MORTAR & PESTLE APOTHECARY TRADE SIGN. Spectacular early illuminated trade sign features a gilt painted copper mortar and pestle encrusted with glass jewels. The mortar is set with blue, green and lavender jewels while the pestle is set with smaller blue, green red and opalescent colors. Probably manufactured by Travis, McLewee & Ferry Co., of New York, circa 1900, who credited themselves with creating the world’s first illuminated trade signage. FANCY APOTHECARY CLUSTER SHOW GLOBES. Rare illuminated cluster globe apothecary symbol. Hanging from wall mounted filigreed brass bracket are five globes. The globes are filled with colored liquid; blue, red, yellow, and green. Brass collars to the globes are figural oak leaves. The show globe cluster was originally available in either an electric or a gas version. This example is electric. The unit was advertised in the 1899 Fuller & Fuller catalog, 1900 Lord Owens & Co. catalog, and the 1900 Peter Van Schaach catalog. SIZE: 18-1/2″ high. WINCHESTER LEWIS ADVERTISING CLOCK. Neat old “made up”” advertising piece. The “Winchester Lures” clock has a windup mechanism, and the front has a kind of plastic or celluloid dial having an applied fish in the form of a walleye. It has a brass finial at the top making it look like a pocket watch. The Winchester Lewis letters consists of small plastic like letters that are affixed to the front. No key. SIZE: 13″ diameter. VICTORY ORANGE PUNCH DISPENSER & DISPLAY. Extremely rare dispenser that also served as a combination drugstore illuminated display. The trophy-cup shaped decorated body is constructed from galvanized sheet metal with the handles, top and base fabricated from cast aluminum. The dispenser top is equipped with a lamp base for what was probably an illuminated globe or shade. The dispenser was designed as a figural ice cooler – a removable top panel allowed the soda jerk to fill the interior compartment with ice. SIZE: 32″w x 51″h. LARGE 1920 WINCHESTER CALENDAR. This large lithographed framed calendar pictures a large duck hunting scene with father and son returning from the hunt. Red blaze Winchester letters across the top and calendar with a 1920 full calendar pad including January. SIZE: 19 1/2″ w x 38″ h. CONDITION: Calendar is nicely matted and framed, (no glass)with a couple of very small wrinkles along the edge and one small 1/4″ tear, otherwise, generally very good. ANTIQUE FULL SIZE ROLLER ORGAN. This 19th Century barrel organ has a nice incised carved wood case with a painted screen panel on top depicting sailing vessel and cottages. Cast metal handles mounted on either side. The crank on the left side, mechanism plays ten tunes and is complete with a play card. Popular tunes include one of the most famous W.W.I. tunes produced “Over There” by James M. Cohen. The mechanism is driven by a large spring and features a bell attachment. PAIR OF LARGE CAST IRON FIGURAL LAMP FIXTURES. This is a wonderful pair of figural cast iron mounts which were probably used to either hold outdoor lighting fixtures or perhaps a large trade sign. PR OLD HIRES METTLACH ROOT BEER MUGS. This matching pair, each with a little boy depicted on the front holding a mug of Hires reads “Join Health and Cheer, Drink Hires Root Beer”. Marked on the underside in green with the Mettlach mark, these flaring shaped tall mugs that are much scarcer than the barrel shaped ones, each have strap handles. SIZE: Approx. 5″h. COLORFUL OLD ADVERTISING THERMOS. This great old colorful thermos advertises “YACHT BRAND THERMOS” and depicts a sailing yacht.
