OUTSTANDING LEADED AND STAINED GLASS WINDOW WITH GEORGE WASHINGTON. The square framed window has a central roundel with George Washington bust. Its outer circle decorated with alternating oval amber cabochon glass and round blue cabochon glass. The outer borders decorated with carmel and purple slag, ripple glass and round colored bulls eyes. The outer most border in rectangular purple. PROVENANCE: Oral history indicates that it was made for the American Centennial. From there it was placed into a Masonic temple in Philadelphia where it was moved after the building was torn down to the George Washington Pub in Cincinnati, Ohio. SIZE: Of sash is 35-3/4” x 39”. A frieze supporting four drawer. Two fitted with Eastlake style hardware. Middle section with open shelf area having four carved and turned posts, beveled rectangular mirror back and inset panels. Over which are four bevel glass doors with open compartment interiors. Top section having a central shaped beveled edge large mirror flanked by shelves supported by carved and turned side posts with D-shaped shelves and shaped beveled mirror backs. Above which are molded edge shelves with shaped molded edge central shelf supporting a large crest with molded edge and architectural top. The back panels having multi-colored inlay marquetry design with cornucopias of fruit, swag and trailing vines. Bottom cabinet section with a drop center shelf under which is an inlaid drawer with decorative hardware under which is an open compartment with banister gallery having urn shaped spindles under which is a compartment fitted with two beveled glass doors. This center section is flanked by doors having seven section beveled edge mirrors framing a central inlaid flower panel. The whole piece is supported by six legs. The feet and side stiles with molded edge in art nouveau style. Sides have raised burl panels. The top section with similar designed two doors, overhanging top and front corners. Two side shelves and open compartment at midpoint. One adjustable shelf behind. Case appears to be in walnut, all with a nice light brown finish. RARE MAHOGANY AND GLASS GRAND HARMONICON. The case and stand in mahogany and walnut. The lift top square box is fitted with sixteen holes, which allow sixteen different sized pegged goblet bowls to be inserted, which allows for different musical notes. The term “Grand Harmonicon” is the name that Francis Hopkinson Smith (1797-1872) gave to his version of the musical glasses, which he patent on April 7th, 1825. In one piece, having top back section with central bowed door with inlaid two handled urn. Interior fitted with one shelf. A central door flanked by three drawers on each side with geometric inlays. The drawers have an interior locking mechanism. The bottom section with inset fall front design which opens to a large open interior with geometric diamond pattern.
