REAR ADMIRAL MORTON L. DEYO PRESIDENTIAL COMMISSIONS AND NAVAL ACADEMY DIPLOMA.Morton L. Deyo (1887-1973) was a lifelong naval officer and from a family of military men, his wife being a direct descent of John Pine Decatur, Commodore Stephen Decatur’s brother. This grouping of 8 large vellum documents starts with the United States Naval Academy Midshipman appointment signed by USNA Superintendent and 12 professors, showing completion of studies June 2, 1911. Document has beautiful naval vignettes and gold embossed seal. Seven Presidential Commissions chronicle his promotions starting with Ensign (William Taft, March 28, 1912), Lieutenant JG (Woodrow Wilson, January 25, 1916), Lieutenant (Woodrow Wilson, July 20, 1918), Lieutenant Commander (Warren G. Harding, December 21, 1922), Commander (Herbert Hoover, June 21, 1932), Captain (Franklin Roosevelt, July 21, 1939), and ending with Rear Admiral (Harry S. Truman, December 9, 1947). SIZE: Commissions are about 15″ x 19″, Taft a little smaller 14″ x 18″. Naval Academy document 13-1/2″ x 21-1/2″. PROVENANCE: A most historical and important collection from the estate of Maria Decatur Mayo Deyo (Lila) Garnett of Kittery Point, Maine. CONDITION: Documents overall very good.
