FINE 1863 DATED COLT SPECIAL CONTRACT MODEL 1861 MUSKET.

NSN. Cal. 58. Standard configuration 55-1/2″ overall, with 40″ bbl dated “1863” at breech with “VP” proof. Breech is also marked on left side “N.J” and “STEEL”. Stock is typical surplus from the Civil War with no inspectors cartouches, but New Jersey “N.J” stamped opposite lock. Metal is polished bright like issued with a blued rear sight. CONDITION: Very fine overall. Bright finish with light staining to metal surfaces. Stock is sound and solid retaining some raised grain and overlaps buttplate and bbl tangs. Lock markings are crisp and fine as seen in photos as is eagle on bolster. Bbl date and proofs appear strong. Mechanically crisp with well discerned rifled bore. 52701-8 (3,500-5,500) – Lot 3440
