ROCOCO REVIVAL CARVED GILT THREE PANEL DRESSING SCREEN WITH LANDSCAPE PAINTED PANELS.Late 19th century, Central Europe. Each gilt and carved panel surmounted by pierced foliate scrolled crests centering a classical putto’s mask. The outer most hinged panels with free standing acanthus and water leaf carved spiral twist columns with pineapple finials. The bases with foliate carvings. Each panel with pierce carved apron carved with scrolling grape vines and floral filled urns. The whole raised on suppressed ribbed Flemish feet. Each of the three panels with an oil on canvas of classical ruins in a landscape, each allegorical painting of courting scenes. The verso with pleated silk panels. SIZE: 85-1/2″ h of center panel x 76″ l overall. CONDITION: The deep relief carvings in generally fine condition with losses to gilt surface, most severe on left panel facing. The gilding has been lost in areas to the layer of gesso. The painted panels with small spot losses to pigment, most notable in center of central panel where pigment is crackled and lifting somewhat from the canvas. Paint loss is minimal and restorable. Otherwise screen is in structurally good condition with normal and expected wear to the gilding at mid point of columns as a result of in use wear. 50743-2 (3,000-4,000) – Lot 3060
