FINE COLT MODEL 1860 PERCUSSION ARMY REVOLVER WITH CHECKERED IVORY GRIPS AND TOOLED “SLIM JIM” HOLSTER.SN 184715. Cal. 44. Fine example of the popular Colt percussion Army revolver with beautiful well aged factory checkered Ivory grips and California style tooled “Slim Jim” holster. This gun retains much of its original finish and presents beautifully in its well fit holster. This particular gun was made in 1869 and shows honest use and good overall aesthetics. PROVENANCE: The Estate of G. W. “Bill” Stewart of Sonora, Texas. Special Note: This item contains or is made of ivory. This information is located in the front section of our catalog. CONDITION: Bbl retains about 20% bright blue finish especially in protected areas, bbl address is crisp, balance gray with areas of pitting and small blemishes. Matching SN are found on bbl, frame, trigger guard and backstrap. Wedge is missing spring and is numbered 4956. Cylinder has strong traces of finish in rebated area with good rolled Naval battle cylinder scene that is 90% intact with scattered areas of pitting, cylinder was never stamped with SN though “COLT’S PATENT No.” mark is crisp. Frame has crisp “COLT’S PATENT” marking on left side retaining about 50% muted case colors with balance silver/gray with light pitting on left recoil shield. Hammer retains over 50% case colors with few scattered dings and dents on top and back of spur. Backstrap retains strong traces of blue finish in protected areas with balance matching gray to rest of gun with pitting, missing top right screw. Trigger guard marked “44cal” on left rear above trigger bow, about 10% silver retained with balance light mustard patina. Mechanically gun functions well with bright crisp bore. Traces of blue are found in rifling and in several chambers of cylinder. Original Colt “certifiable antique elephant ivory” grips are well fit and quite worn with good patina, inked number inside channel does not match. Accompanying holster is sound, solid and supple with crazing and wear at ear holding trigger bow, belt loop is sound and solid. Holster is complete with sewn plug, retains most of its original dyed surface with some cracking and crazing overall, stitching is slightly loose at top edge. 49973-112, 49973-272, JS IVORY (4,000-6,000) – Lot 1230
