AMERICAN PRESIDENT STEAMSHIP LINE MEMORIAL PAINTING TO ROBERT DOLLAR.

Circa 1945 American. This painted sign commissioned as a memorial to the founder and President of Dollar Steamship Lines circa 1896 to 1938, subsequently renamed American Presidential Lines in 1938 at the onset of hostilities leading to the second World War. The sign features the Presidential name of each steamship with date of christening and size above a silvered plaque inscribed “In Memory of / ROBERT DOLLAR / Founder and Chairman / d. 1932″, flanked by opposing carved dolphins each on a classical square pedestal. all on a molded plinth.
