QUEEN ANNE TRANSITIONAL MAHOGANY CORNER CHAIR.Mid 18th century. Curved pillow crest joined to the conforming rail continuing to rounded grips joined to cylindrical stiles alternating with vasiform chamfered splats. Seat frame with serpentine frontal rails and deeply valanced apron framing a slip seat of conforming shape, whole raised on cabriole legs with scallop returns terminating in modest pad feet. NOTE: Interior of seat frame with 2 cutout notches on each side possibly to accommodate frame for chamber pot, on which finished slip seat would rest within apron. SIZE: 33″ h (overall) x 26″ w 19-1/2″ h (seat). PROVENANCE: The Estates of Faye G. Montell & Hayden Goldberg of Brooklyn, NY & Gardiner, ME. CONDITION: Chair retains old if not original surface, old repair to proper left hand grip, repairs to front and proper left legs at juncture of apron, front foot with tight vertical split to ankle. 49830-26 (800-1,200) – Lot 2618
