ALLAN LEHTIS (American, 1932-2006) THREE LANDSCAPES.Three acrylics on canvas Housed in black and gold frames Each signed lower right “ALLAN LEHTIS” Including 1) Cranes Flying Over Water 2) Arctic Landscape 3) Maine Coast Note: Maine artist, Allan Lehtis was born in 1932 in Estonia and immigrated to the U.S. shortly before the end of World War II. He studied art at the American Academy of Art in Chicago and in 1956-57, while in the Navy served as an artist and photographer to the Commander of the Atlantic Fleet. In 1972, Lehtis moved to Maine and opened Windswept Art Studio in Albion. In a 1976 interview for an exhibit at the Thomas College Art Gallery, Lehtis states “Part of an artist’s job is to get people to look at their world with a fresh eye and new point of view.”(1) In 1981, Lehtis received a commission from the Maine Commission on the Arts & Humanities to create a mural for the Poland Community School in Poland, Maine. The panoramic scene spans the four seasons from dawn to dark recording the history of the Town of Poland. Works by Lehtis have been exhibited in galleries and museums throughout Maine, New York and Chicago. (1) Lewiston Evening Journal, September 7, 1976. SIZE: Each 40″ x 34”.
