FINE EARLY GERMAN BLERIOT PLANE WITH OB.

A classic German toy manufactured in the teens through the 1920s, this particular version features a lithographed tin body as well as wings with celluloid propellers and rudder. As was typical of the time period, toys emulated the social, economical, political, and real life objects of the period. Toy manufacturers cashed in on this new craze of flying and various firms produced in miniature form toy airplanes such as this particular example. In exceptional original condition with its original box, paper instructions, and four of the five celluloid propellers, blades still intact. When the toy mechanism is wound, the plane’s propellers will spin and wings will flap, emulating flight in motion. This toy was created in miniature form after Bleriot’s flight from France to England. SIZE: Overall length excluding rudder is 9-1/2″ l. PROVENANCE: From the Laurence Hapgood Estate. CONDITION: Overall exceptional original condition. Some oxidation to the black wheel supports. Cardboard box is intact with label, yet ever so slightly warped. 49003-2 (2,000-3,000) – Lot 2010
