EMPIRE MAHOGANY WORK TABLE IN MANNER OF DUNCAN PHYFE.

Mid 19th century, New York. The rectangular figured top with crossbanded borders and rounded corners above the conforming case fitted with 2 drawers, the upper most with adjustable writing surface and compartments, above a side drawer with barrel bottom and pull out working slide beneath the top on the opposing end raised on columnar legs with gilt cast-brass capitols and bases joined by a shelf with in-curved front and back terminating in carved stepped bulbous feet on brass casters. Possibly by Phyfe due to the similarly carved elements between this example and four examples in the MMA’s Phyfe Exhibition. SIZE: 28-1/2″ h. x 22-1/2″ w. x 16″ d. CONDITION: Top with water stains, the table with areas of veneer loss most notably to front of apron and frontal legs, table retains original surfaces. 9-96762 (2,000-3,000) – Lot 2234
