LARGE STENCIL PAINTED SIGN FOR H.F. BIERKAMP.

Exceptional hand-painted tin sign produced by Ithaca Sign Works of Ithaca, New York depicting a gentleman ferrying three ladies about the countryside in an open-air Ford vehicle of the 1920s. With a bold script Ford logo in the upper left corner, it advertises H.F. Bierkamp, a Durant, Iowa sales and service garage. Bierkamp also served as mayor of the town in the late teens. Sign is constructed with two large sheets of horizontally seamed tin and supported by a stretcher-style wood frame. Accompanied by a copy of a vintage photo of Bierkamp’s Automobiles & Implements. This sign is not visible in the photo as it would have been located offsite to direct patrons to the garage. SIZE: 72″ w x 49″ h. CONDITION: Overall good to very good with uniform wear, light chipping and some shallow dimples and edge bends from being outside exposed to the elements. Upper right corner exhibits some scrub marks from an attempted cleaning that has marked the rear passengers. 1-15140 (9,000-12,000) – Lot 1741
