GRAVITY VENDING MACHINE COMPANY GUMBALL DISPENSER.

When observing this particular machine, an ingenious yet incredibly simple mechanism was constructed; it is no wonder why many of these did not survive. Three cascading glass tubes held the tiny gumballs but any sudden jarring or abusive handling would break or destroy these fragile glass tubes. Loading of the tubes was done by removing the top & putting in new gumballs, just a simplified mechanism of dropping a penny in the slot would release gumballs. Obviously not a lot of mechanics or operational failure to this machine, but as discussed above, glass tubes were susceptible to breakage. Four glass sides held in place by nickel plated columns, iron base & iron top, made this an attractive machine to the perspective purchaser. Original paper label at the bottom of the machine indicating Wagner & Miller as the sole agents from Sandusky, Ohio. Machine was originally made circa 1910 by Gravity Vending Machine Company and followed in the footsteps of an earlier machine “Honey Breath Balls” which appeared in the 1903/1904 time period. Purportedly this was one of the earliest gumball vendors manufactured! SIZE: Approx 7″ w x 7″ d x 13″ t. CONDITION: Overall condition is very good, nickel plating strongly intact with some minor loss on top & left side of machine. A light cleaning would probably bring up the lustre of the nickel plated finish. 1-14914 (3,750-5,750) – Lot 1501
