LEHMANN BIRD WITH OB.Oftentimes this particular toy is not appreciated and is taken for granted, this particular example is worthy of any collection! It is in virtually phenomenal near mint all-original condition. The paper wings are perhaps the most fragile part of this toy & they appear to be absolutely complete with no visible damage whatsoever!! It is amazing how this toy was shipping in such a small box – one would think for sure the wings could not survive. The bird itself is vibrantly colored, and Mr. Soling made a special stand and plexiglass cabinet for this toy. Included is a wonderful red breast flake tobacco tin. The toy’s box is very solid and missing one end flap and it contains the original directions for operation of this toy. Lid itself indicates “Mechanical flying bird – catch one and take it home”. A black & white label has a young boy playing with the toy while his mother, younger sister and baby look on. Not enough can be said about the ingenuity of this toy and/or its condition. Remarkable, astounding, awesome are just a few words that come to mind. SIZE: Approx 7″ l. PROVENANCE: The Estate of Carol and Jerry Soling. CONDITION: It appears that a new string has been put in place with a fair amount of the original string & pulls still present. A typical problem as a toy 100 years old, the cotton string would deteriorate on its own or through use. This toy appears never to have been used though?? 1-14620 (1,000-1,500) – Lot 1080 Auction: Advertising, Toy & Doll Auction - Fall 2014 Please Note: All prices include the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium, which is paid by the buyer as part of the purchase price.
