GOODWIN WALKER WITH CLOCKWORK CARRIAGE.

A visually and aesthetically pleasing toy with an early patent date of 1867. This particular version is perhaps the nicest of several versions that were produced. Manufactured with a wooden carriage as well, this particular example is painted and stenciled tin employing vibrant coloring with a fanciful cast iron front wheel with a heart motif. This toy is wound using a key as opposed to the wooden carriage that is oftentimes “back wound”. The body of the walking doll is elaborately designed body to simulate a person walking and as the carriage proceeds forward she would engage this “walking method” behind the carriage as though she were pushing it along. Various heads on the walking doll were also utilized, including papier mache, pressed linen head or china. This particular version is the patented linen head version. Seated in the carriage is a parian style all bisque girl of the same time period which was probably added at some point in time, but not original to this toy. SIZE: 12″ l x 11-1/2″ h. CONDITION: Overall condition is very good to fine. It appears that the interior yellow seat has had some minimal aged touch up. 1-13891 (1,000-2,000) – Lot 3241
