UNUSUAL AND HANDSOME LARGE ENGLISH TEDDY BEAR.Circa 1920 English Teddy bear, probably made by British toy manufacturer W.J. Terry. Bear is made from golden mohair and is 5-ways jointed. He has smaller hands and bent wrists, large flat feet, and chubby proportions. Ted has felt pads with five black hand-embroidered claws on each paw; several are missing on right foot. His distinctive face is detailed with oversized black glass pupil eyes (with the brown back painting flaking off), a shaved muzzle, and a black hand-embroidered nose and mouth. Terry bears have similar characteristics to Farnell bears; Terry ceased operations at the start of WWII. SIZE: Overall 25″ t (63cm) sitting 16″ (40cm). PROVENANCE: Chuck & Cathy Steffes Collection. CONDITION: Wear and loss on hand paws, footpads recovered with losses.
