CIRCA 1925 PETER BEAR FROM THE SUSSENGUTH COMPANY OF BAVARIA.A most unusual brown-tipped mohair teddy bear designed using traditional doll making techniques. Peter Bear’s head is covered in mohair and made of a pressed material while his body is made from mohair and is stuffed in a more traditional fashion. The bear itself is 5-ways jointed with brown felt paw pads. The face is detailed with moveable glass eyes in deep eye sockets, a black composite nose, and a very mean looking open mouth which is highly authentic looking with teeth and a tongue. This bear was rather unpopular at the time and sold poorly as the design scared children. This pattern was also produced in apricot, gray, and pink mohair. Today, this bear is highly desirable amongst collectors interested in rarities such as this. Peter retains his original silver rimmed named chest tag. SIZE: Overall 13″ t (33cm). Sitting 10″ t (25cm). PROVENANCE: Chuck & Cathy Steffes Collection. CONDITION: Partially functioning tongue and eye movement. Otherwise very good. 1-13858 (2,000-3,000) – Lot 3081 Auction: Advertising, Toy & Doll - Spring 2014 Please Note: All prices include the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium, which is paid by the buyer as part of the purchase price.
