FINE ROSEWOOD INLAID DISPLAY CABINET. Second half 19th century, China. The whole with pierced scrolling galleries carved in deep relief with birds, bats, butterflies and serpents. Decorated overall with marquetry panels of floral vinery, the case front with ivory, bone and hardwood marquetry depicting landscapes with pavilions and with precious and scholarly objects. The upper section fitted with open shelves beneath a pagoda crest. The columnar supports entwined with dragons. Set back on the base which is fitted with three drawers above banks of three short drawers centering a knee hole compartment fitted with a pair of cupboard drawers. SIZE: 93″ h x 42″ w x 29-3/4″. CONDITION: With old original surface, the cabinet structurally sound. With breaks and losses to decorative carved elements, many in need of reattachments and/or restoration.
