RARE PALMER HOUSE CHICAGO HOTEL SIGN. A most impressive sign promoting the opening of “The Palace Hotel of the World.” The hotel was completed in 1873 and began taking its first guests in November of that year. This promotional sign probably coincides closely with the opening. The graphics are tremendous, with insets showing their halls, parlors, dining rooms, bridal chamber, etc. Arguably the best hotel sign known. Believed to be unique. Size: approx. 36″x 27″ excluding the original frame. CONDITION: Very good with a small 2″ tear at the lower right and small rust stain marks just after “Chicago” at the bottom. Light overall toning. Old original frame with some edge dings. 1-27880 (3,500-5,000) Auction: Advertising, Toy & Doll - Spring 2002 Please Note: All prices include the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium, which is paid by the buyer as part of the purchase price. The prices noted here after the auction are considered unofficial and do not become official until after the 46th day. |
