WINCHESTER 2ND MODEL 1873 LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 38WCF. Standard grade rifle with 24″ oct. bbl, full magazine, Beech’s front sight, short semi-buckhorn rear sight with knurled edges and a Lyman loop tang sight. Case colored receiver, very nicely figured uncheckered wood with straight stock and smooth steel shotgun buttplate. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum letter identifying this rifle with “case hardened” receiver and “fancy stock” as being shipped July 9th, 1881. SN 69626. CONDITION: Very good to excellent. Bbl and mag tube retain 94-95% strong original blue with light edge wear and light muzzle wear. Receiver retains about 90% case colors on the right side, strong and bright in the sheltered areas, 92-93% case colors on the left side, also strong and bright in the sheltered areas. Top and bottom front edges have turned silver. Lever retains traces of case colors with the balance a silver brown and the hammer about 75% faded case colors. Buttplate is mostly a silver brown patina. Forearm has a hairline on the left side, otherwise the wood is sound and retains a fine hand-rubbed patina. Brilliant shiny bore. All in all, a beautiful early 73 in fine condition. 4-47012 JR402 (8,000-12,000)
