*SPECTACULAR ENGRAVED GOLD INLAID WINCHESTER MODEL 1897 TWO-BARREL SET. Cal. 12ga. Deluxe model 97 with 28″ full choke bbl and 30″ full choke bbl. Both with small checkered round forearms. Buttstock has a capped pistol grip of very highly figured center crotch cut walnut 14-1/8″ over a Winchester solid red pad. Receiver has been engraved with spectacular panels of bird dogs on both sides and vignettes of woodcock and partridge surrounded by very fine arabesque patterns, attributed to John Ulrich. The edges of the receiver, takedown ring and chamber end of the bbl have gold wire inlay. The slide rod also has gold wire inlay with light patterns of engraving. The trigger bow is also engraved with an oval pattern of gold wire inlay. The bottom of the receiver, below the serial number, has the initials “FWS” or “WFS” intertwined. The magazine band is engraved and has a gold wire oval and the magazine cap is engraved with a gold wire oval. The muzzles have fine bands of engraving. The receiver is full matted top and the bbls are matted down the top their full-lengths, the trigger is nicely checkered with an over-travel stop. To accommodate the matting, the lettering ,caliber and proof marks were marked off to the left and the choke marking is marked to the right side of the matting. This wonderful shotgun is pictured in color on a full-page with a nice write-up in “WINCHESTER ENGRAVING BY R.L. WILSON”. SN 189008. CONDITION: Excellent. Retains most of an expertly accomplished restored finish as mentioned in the book. Probably by the factory, as it is not apparent. The chamber area of the 30″ bbl has several small spots of cleaned light pitting. Both bores are bright and shiny. 4-46651 JR200 (7,500-15,000)
