Oil on canvas Housed in a 20th Century carved gilt frame Signed lower left “Rembrandt Peale” Inscribed on back of canvas liner in pencil “Painted by Rembrandt Peale 1857 from original portrait of Washington 1795” and “Copy from original canvas and relined by G. Anton, 1932″ (of London) SIZE: 36-1/4″ h x 29-1/4”. Overall: 44″ h x 37″ w PROVENANCE: From a fine Augusta, Maine Estate. Indicated on 1994 purchase invoice “Provenance as descending through the Romanov Family of Russia”. CONDITION: Lined, thin paint layer, small area in his left cheek with tiny chips, some inpainting 9-29205 (150,000-200,000)
