FINE ENGLISH STERLING BOX. SN N/A. Fine oval box. 6″ x 4-5/8″ x 2-1/4″ with hinged lid inscribed “IN MEMORY OF / MAJOR JAMES ATKINSON / DIED 27TH JANY 1891.” The front of box around the seal ring is marked with several hallmarks and “PERCY EDWARDS & CO. 71 & 72 PICADILLY W.” Inside of lid also has 2 hallmarks. Top of lid has a small oval portrait frame 1-5/8″ x 1-1/4″ which contains a miniature portrait of a distinguished gentleman in 1850-1860 period British army uniform with the collar flash of a Lieutenant. It is accompanied with a packet of information regarding Major James Atkinson who was born in Middlesex, England in 1836, commissioned into the Second Royal Surrey Militia in 1866 and retired with the rank of Major in 1880. This information goes into great detail regarding the Second Royal Surrey Militia with some of their activities, training, etc. Weight is slightly over 14.5oz. PROVENANCE: Ex-Collection Hank Truslow CONDITION: Extremely Fine. One or two scratches on lid with light wear on the bottom.
