UNMARKED KENTUCKY STYLE HALF STOCK RIFLE. SN NSN. Cal. .440 Groove diameter. 7 Square groove rifling. 36″ Octagon barrel is turned round for 3/8″ at muzzle. It has semi-buckhorn rear sight, attached to bbl with two screws. Brass blade front sight is dovetailed through top flat with parallel grooves engraved to aid in adjusting windage. Bbl is fitted with hooked patent breech. Breech iron forms fence. Percussion bar lock has some scroll engraving. Double set trigger plate has file decorated finial. Stock furniture is German silver. Trigger guard has spur, and tang extends into semi-pistol grip. German silver strap extends to toe. Walnut stock measures 13-1/4″ over German silver crescent butt with square heavy tang. Stock has inlet un-engraved German silver decoration, naive rendition of running stag on right butt. 3-1/2″ Lozenge on cheek piece is pierced with 4 hearts. Bat-wing sideplate is also pierced, and is flanked by deers head. Bbl mounts to forepiece with two side nails through rectangular German silver escutcheons with cut-out corners. Forend tip is cast pewter. Hickory ramrod has German silver tip, and mounts to bbl through two beaded pipes. CONDITION: Good. Bbl retains most of an old re-brown over plentiful pinprick pitting. Engraving on lock is washed. Triggers and hammer appear to be modern replacements. Stock has new finish which appears to be rubbed over an older finish. German silver is mostly bright. Bore is good.
