CONFEDERATE CAVALRY SABER MADE BY DOUGLAS OF COLUMBIA SOUTH CAROLINA. This is about as fine an example of a B. Douglas enlisted cavalry saber you will find. The 34-1/2″, near straight blade could have fit into either an metal or wooden scabbard. Both types utilized by this rare maker. This sword has beautiful untouched patina to the brass hilt and pommel, the leather grip is near perfect with its orig twisted, brass wire. The protective washer, with its red felt background, are rarely seen. If you wanted one great Confederate cavalry saber, in beautiful “as found” condition, this might be it. SIZE: 34-1/2″ blade. CONDITION: Blade is gray/bright with scattered staining. Several small bends are seen in hilt branches, as can be seen in photos. A brown, mustard colored patina present on brass surfaces, leather grip is complete and intact with numerous scuffs and wear at high areas. Twisted brass wirer wrap is complete and tight. Protective leather washer and red felt background are intact. Surface of washer is scuffed and mottled, with several small reductions. 4-87638 JS19 (3,000-4,000)
