*EXTREMELY RARE ONE OF A KIND PROTOTYPE MARLIN SINGLE SHOT LEVER ACTION RIFLE.

*EXTREMELY RARE ONE OF A KIND PROTOTYPE MARLIN SINGLE SHOT LEVER ACTION RIFLE. SN NONE. Cal. 30-30. Extremely unusual single shot Marlin built on a prototype 336-size action with solid interior that has a slot down the middle for lever clearance and a 23″ heavy rnd bbl that is 15/16″ across the muzzle. Right side of bbl, at the receiver, is stamped with the “JM” (Marlin) proof mark. There are no other markings of any sort visible on this rifle. Front sight is ramp mounted with a hood and no provision for a rear sight, with a Williams receiver sight. Forearm is flat bottom with diamond shaped checkering and is attached by means of a rod from the front of the receiver that passes through the forearm and is secured with a screw through a metal plate at the tip. Buttstock is extra select, highly figured, flame & shell grain American walnut with deluxe checkering and a Marlin black composition buttplate. It also has the black & white Marlin bull’s eye on the bottom. Accompanied by a letter signed by Ralph J. Guarino, of Farmingdale, NY, dated June 6, 1994, asking for information on the rifle, stating that he had purchased it from a private estate sale. Apparently he had addressed this letter to Marlin Firearms. Also included is the carbon copy of a bank check from Mr. Rohal to Ralph Guarino. A rifle, similar to this one, was the subject of a 1-page article by Steve Miller that appeared in the August 1967 issue of Guns magazine. Mr. Miller states that he saw this rifle or another like it at a sporting goods store in Huntington, Long Island, and that it was in caliber 35 Remington with a 1″ diameter 21-1/2″ bbl. He reports that the rifle, the subject of his article, was subsequently damaged in a fire in the store where he had seen it, but was restored. Given that the rifle in Mr. Miller’s article appeared in Huntington, Long Island, NY and Mr. Guarino’s address is in Farmingdale, NY, it could logically be assumed that they probably originated from the same source. PROVENANCE: Richard Rohal Estate Collection. CONDITION: Extremely fine plus. Overall retains virtually all of its strong orig Marlin finish to both metal & wood with only very minor scattered handling & storage marks.
