FINE A. HAYDT MARTINI ACTION SCHUETZEN RIFLE. SN 5202. Cal. 8.15x46R. Fine Schuetzen rifle with 29-3/4″ swamped oct bbl with ramp mounted windage adjustable winged front sight, pin is broken. Top flat of bbl is very nicely matted with the maker’s name & “AICHACH” inlaid in silver. Chamber end of bbl also has one wide and one narrow inlaid silver band. Top side flats over the chamber area are marked “PRIMA” on left side and “GUSS-STAHL” on right side. Receiver is Schmidt & Habermann Universal Martini style with rounded bottom edges and octagonal top front. Breech block is secured with a spring retained quick release take down pin. Top tang has an integral sight base with key adjustable windage & elevation medium diopter sight. Mounted with nicely figured European walnut with uncheckered semi-schnable forearm and semi-Schuetzen buttstock with checkered wrist and deep, heavy cheekpiece with semi-Schuetzen buttplate. Bottom flat of bbl & buttstock have narrow sling loops. Opening lever is heavy target style with serpentine finger rests and has dbl set triggers. Receiver, breech block and all appended metal are beautifully engraved with the large vignette of a snarling tiger in a jungle scene on left side and a maned lion attacking another lion in a Veld scene on right side surrounded by extremely well executed full coverage foliate, floral & vine engraving patterns with all of the engraving having an extremely fine matted background. Breech block is engraved to match and top three flats of front of receiver are engraved in diamond patterns. Bottom of receiver, forend iron, lever & tangs, along with buttplate tang are engraved to match. This rifle is pictured on pp. 148-149 of Alte Scheibenwaffen, Volume 2. CONDITION: Very good to fine. Bbl retains about 95% strong orig blue with some very fine scattered pitting on right side just above the sling loop. Receiver, lever and tangs have silvered case colors. Stock has a grain check on left side of butt with a few small spots of fill on right side and retains most of a professionally restored finish.
