*RARE ENGRAVED HOFFMAN ARMS CUSTOM SPRINGFIELD SPORTING RIFLE. SN NSN. Cal. 30-06. 24″ Round barrel is engraved “Hoffman Arms Co. Ardmore, Okla.” on top, and “30/06 Cal.” on left side toward rear. Breech area is stippled with 1-1/2″ triangles of nicely cut acanthus scroll with stippled background. Silver bead front sight is longitudinally dovetailed into banded base with stippled ramp. Ramp is surrounded by feather border engraving with acanthus and scroll at rear, matching the treatment of breech end of bbl. Receiver ring is stippled on top, with flourishes of scroll engraving on either side. Lyman 48 receiver sight has been mounted. Bolt has polished damascened body with band of checkering around knob, otherwise action shows no modifications. Rear of follower has not been angled, to allow bolt to ride over on an empty magazine. Bottom metal has hinged floorplate retained by button inside trigger guard bow. It has open scroll engraving with semi-relief moose in woodlands at center of floorplate. Classic shaped, lightly streaked and figured European walnut pistol grip stock measures 13-3/4″ over Silvers type pad, and features sling loops, horn forend tip, and engraved steel grip cap with nicely cut acanthus engraving with stippled background at center. Modified fleur-de-lis pattern 22 LPI borderless checkering is at grip and forend. Drop at heel: Approx 1-1/2″, drop at comb: Approx 1-5/8″. Weight: 8 lbs. 3 oz, LOP 13-3/4″. CONDITION: Excellent, as refurbished. Metal retains virtually all of a high quality satin rust blue. Stock retains most of what may be its original hand rubbed oil finish. Checkering has been re-cut. Pad is new. Bore is bright and shiny with strong rifling, with slight evidence of erosion at throat. 4-39708 MGM71 (4,500-7,500)
