*DIMINUTIVE F. REECE .410 BOXLOCK EJECTOR GAME GUN WITH CASE. SN 747. Cal. 410. 2-1/2″ Chambers. 27″ Dovetailed steel barrels are engraved “Made by. F. Reece. for. Vernon Burls. Wantage.” on narrow concave game rib. Top of right bbl is engraved “English Made.” Breech ends of bbls have 7/8″ triangles of shaded open scroll. Bottoms of bbls have Birmingham proofs and initials “FR”. SN is on loop. Bbl flats have original Birmingham nitro proofs, as well as, London re-proofs (2003) for 2-1/2″ chambers. Narrow boxlock action features automatic safety, “Safe” inlaid in silver, and double triggers. Action is engraved with about 50% coverage of well executed shaded open scroll. “F. Reece.” is in scrolled ribands on either side of action. Trigger guard has scroll engraving on bow, and SN on tang which extends to grip cap. Lightly streaked and quite dark European walnut pistol grip buttstock measures 14-1/8″ over 1-1/2″ well matching wood extension with ribbed wood butt. There is a vacant silver oval on toe line. 24 LPI point pattern checkering with line border is on grip, which terminates in sunburst horn cap. Side panels with drop points have carved inset areas of checkering. Matching splinter forend has Anson release, and SN on iron. Bore diameter: left -,384 at muzzle, right -.407 at muzzle. Drop at heel: 2-1/4″, drop at comb: 1-5/8″. Weight: 4 lbs. 6 oz, LOP 14-1/8″. Leather toe under case has stitched leather corners. Interior is lined with maroon cloth with “J. Roberts and Son” paper label. Accessories include square oil bottle, pair of snap caps, 3-pc brass cleaning rod with rosewood handle, leather pouch containing cleaning brushes, etc. and a box of patches with Rigby label. CONDITION: Fine. Bbls retain nearly all of a professional re-black, silvering at muzzles, and thinning toward forend. Action retains 15-20% original case color in protected areas, the balance a pleasing silver gray. Floorplate and trigger guard have been re-blued, and retain virtually all of that blue. Engraving is slightly washed. Top lever retains most of its original blue, thinning and silvered at thumbpiece. Stocks retain nearly all of an old rubbed oil finish, edges slightly rounded. Checkering does not appear to have been re-cut, and is missing a few diamonds, especially on left side of grip. Action is tight. Bbls are on face. Ejectors are in time. Bores are excellent. Case shows a number of minor scuffs. Straps and handle are good. Interior cloth is fine, with compression and marks from contact with gun. Label is fine, as are accessories.
