SCARCE MARLIN BALLARD PACIFIC SINGLE SHOT RIFLE. SN 31236. Cal. 40-85 Everlasting. Scarce Ballard Pacific with rare 32″ oct bbl, 1″ across flats at the muzzle with German silver Rocky Mtn. front sight, a Marlin semi-buckhorn rear sight & a replacement mid-range tang sight with 3″ staff. It has dbl set triggers & a ring lever. Mounted with its orig semi-schnable tip forearm secured with a sgl screw through small escutcheons & what appears to be a replacement buttstock with Uncle Mike’s waffle recoil pad. Bottom flat of bbl has the distinctive feature of two iron guides containing a replacement brass tipped hickory wiping rod. PROVENANCE: Leland Clapp Collection. CONDITION: Good plus. Bbl retains a smooth even blue/brown patina with a couple of cleaned spots & the receiver a smooth blue/gray patina with a few spots of surface discoloration. Forearm shows heavy wear with a hand worn patina. Buttstock is sound and retains virtually all of its custom finish. Mechanics are fine, strong bore, dark in the grooves. 4-36042 JR40 (2,500-4,000)
