WHITNEY ARMS ROLLING BLOCK DELUXE SPORTING RIFLE. SN 80732. Cal. 40-60. 28″ oct bbl, half-nickel front sight, sporting rear. Standard receiver marked on top tang “WHITNEY ARMS CO. / NEW HAVEN. CT. U.S.A.”. Mounted with nicely figured walnut, uncheckered forend with Schnable ebony tip insert, checkered rounded pistol grip & sporting rifle butt plate. PROVENANCE: Dr. Frank Miller Estate Collection. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbl retains 95-98% orig thinning blue with wear at sharp edges, some minor nicks & dings & an area of minor oxidation near muzzle. The number “406” is scratched on bottom flat in front of forend. Stock is sound with good checkering, some typical nicks & dings, retaining most of a piano varnish finish. Butt plate shows orig color mixed with silver & brown patina. Forend is sound with some minor nicks & scrapes, a chip out of ebony tip on right side & retains most of its piano varnish finish. Mechanics are crisp with bright shiny bore, as gun has seen very little use. 4-35669 BDT296 (3,000-5,000)
