*RARE FOX STERLINGWORTH SKEET & UPLAND S/S SHOTGUN. SN 160806. Cal. 12 ga. 26″ bbls w/tapered, matted concave rib w/dual ivory sighting beads, 2-3/4″ chambers, SK/IMP-CYL chokes, dbl trigger and extractors. Right bbl is marked, “SPECIAL ALLOY-FORGE STEEL”. Left is marked, “SAVAGE ARMS CORPORATION, UTICA, N.Y.U.S.A.”. Receiver has minimal zig-zag border engr and “FOX STERLINGWORTH” on each side. Mounted with nicely figured walnut, coarse checkered straight grip, serrated hard rubber butt plate and checkered splinter forend. Serial # suggests early ’40s mfg. Bore diameter: left .726, right .726. Bore restrictions: left .006, right (.010). Wall thickness: left .020, right .028. Drop at heel: 2-1/4″, drop at comb: 1-3/8″. Weight: 7 lbs. 1 oz. LOP 14-1/4″. The Skeet & Upland Model Sterlingworth was introduced in 1935 and its characteristics were its open chokes and short tang straight grip trigger guard and was marketed to fit the demand for a moderately priced Skeet& Upland dbl gun. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbls retain 95-98% orig blue w/some minor rub marks and some spots of dried oil that should clean w/no problem. Receiver has 90% bright orig case colors, thinning on bottom and blended w/silver patina on bottom of left side. Stock is sound w/sharp checkering,some minor handling marks and nicks and scratches and has had a thin coat of darker finish put over the orig varnish. Forend is sound w/crisp checkering, a few minor handling marks and retains most of its orig finish. Mechanics are crisp w/non-automatic safety and nice shiny bores. 4-37231 BDT228 (2,000-3,000)
