*OUTSTANDING A. H. FOX XE GRADE 2-BBL SET SIDE-BY-SIDE SHOTGUN. SN 27082. Cal. 12 ga. 1ST SET: 28″ Chromox Fluid Steel bbls with tapered, matted, concave rib with dual ivory sighting beads, 2-9/16″ chambers, choked CYL / MOD. 2ND SET: 32″ Chromox Fluid Steel bbls with tapered, matted, concave rib with dual ivory sighting beads, 2-3/4″ chambers, choked FULL / FULL. Ejectors & sgl trigger. Both sets bbls at chambers have 2″ wedge of leaf-and-vine engraving. Right bbl marked “CHROMOX FLUID COMPRESSED STEEL” and left “Made By A. H. Fox Gun Co. Phila. PA. U.S.A.”. Rebated X grade receiver has bold leaf & shaded background engraving with vignette of 2 quail & “Ansley H. Fox” on left side and 2 ducks & “Ansley H. Fox” on right. Vignette on bottom of receiver is an oval with fox gazing up & some hills in background. Trigger guard is engraved with leafy pattern & blank initial shield. Mounted with “streaky” walnut with checkered side panels, checkered straight grip, & Silvers recoil pad. Forend for 28″ bbls is checkered splinter with Schnable ebony insert tip, stamped with no.”1″ above SN on inside of forend iron. Forend for 32″ bbls is also checkered splinter with a different checkering pattern & fluted ebony insert tip. 1ST SET: Bore diameter: left -.727, right -.727. Bore restrictions: left -.020, right -.005. Wall thickness: left -.026, right -.026. Drop at heel: 2-3/8″, drop at comb: 1-3/4″. Weight: 7 lbs. 4 oz. LOP 13-3/4″. 2ND SET: Bore diameter: left -.728, right -.728. Bore restrictions: left -.038, right -.036. Wall thickness: left -.025, right -.032. Drop at heel: 2-3/8″, drop at comb: 1-3/4″. Weight: 7 lbs. 14 oz. LOP 13-3/4″. Accompanied by Roe S. Clark letter identifying gun as XE 12 ga. with 28″ bbls choked CYL / MOD, straight grip stock with pull of 13-7/8″, drop at comb 1-3/4″, drop at heel 2-3/8″, fitted with sgl trigger, weighs 7 lbs. 2 oz. Extra set of bbls were fitted 32″ choked FULL / FULL. Note on card “R. C. Lynn on trigger guard, make lightweight, nice wood as can put in stock”; shipped Oct. 28, 1927 to Van Camp Hardware & Iron Co., Indianapolis. Gun accompanied by leather 2-bbl case. PROVENANCE: The David Herrmann Collection. CONDITION: Extremely fine. 28″ bbls retain 95-98% orig blue with some very minor muzzle wear & a couple of minor scratches. 32″ bbls retain 90-95% orig blue with some thinning at muzzle & a couple of minor cleaned spots on right bbl about 5″ from muzzle. Receiver retains 90% strong orig case colors with moderate amount of thinning on bottom of receiver. Trigger guard shows good case colors with some wear to silver in tang area. Stock is sound with just a few minor nicks & scratches in its orig finish, checkering is fine with small area bruised on right side of grip. Both forends are sound with good checkering & orig finish. Gun is extremely tight with lever to right, crisp mechanics with strong ejectors, bright shiny bores. Gun appears to have seen very little use. 4-35245 BDT26 (10,000-15,000)
