*SPRINGFIELD NRA SPORTER. Cal. 30-06. SN 1356083. Standard NRA Sporter with 24” tapered rnd bbl, sleeve mounted Lyman 17A front sight and a Lyman 48S receiver sight with target knobs. It has a nickel steel bolt with 2-panel, checkered knob and 2-panel, checkered safety. The rear edge of the follower has been rounded. Mounted in straight grain, uncheckered, American walnut half stock with curved, checkered steel buttplate. Mounted with sling swivels containing a military style, leather sling. This rifle is one of about 4,946 such rifles built in period 1923-1938. CONDITION: Fine to very fine. Bbl retains most of its orig arsenal blue, turning plum over chamber area. Receiver retains most of its orig blue, also turning slightly plum. Wood is sound with minor nicks & scratches and retains most of an old added finish. Mechanics are fine, very bright shiny bore. Sling is dry & crackled with verdigris around brass hooks. 4-30801 JR236 (1,500-2,000)
