RARE REMINGTON MODEL 1875 EGYPTIAN CONTRACT SINGLE ACTION REVOLVER. Cal. 44 Remington CF. SN 635. Believed to be the finest Egyptian Contract 1875 extant, this revolver has blued finish with 7-1/2″ rnd bbl, pinched post front sight, blued iron triggerguard and 2-pc walnut grips with a lanyard loop in the butt. Both grips have matching penciled serial numbers inside. The left side of the frame by the bbl is stamped with an “R” and it has a corresponding small star on the bbl and a matching “R” on cyl. These marks signify Egyptian contract. This rare revolver is one of the 10,000 pieces contracted from Remington in 1875 which, to date, only a few have been discovered. This is, reportedly, the finest condition Egyptian Contract Model 1875 Remington extant. CONDITION: Very fine, the bbl retains 93-95% strong bright orig blue with light muzzle wear, slightly thinned along the sides of the bbl. The ejector rod housing and web retain 95-96% glossy bright blue. The frame has bright blue in sheltered areas with the balance having flaked to a medium dark patina. There is some fine pitting near the forcing cone area on the top strap. The grip frame is mostly a blue/gray patina and the grips have light handling and use marks and retain most of their orig bright varnish. The safety notch on the hammer is missing, otherwise the mechanics are crisp, bright shiny bore. Baldwin Collection 4-30014 (11,000-16,000)
