RARE REMINGTON KEENE FRONTIER MODEL BOLT ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 45-70. SN 213. Standard rifle with 24” rnd bbl, full magazine, integral front band & sight with a replacement homemade blade. It has Remington’s military ladder rear sight. Receiver ring has a “P” proof mark with “W.W.K.” inspector initials & the arrow stamp of the Indian scouts. Left side of bbl & receiver have “H.N.” inspector stamps for Henry Nettleton. Left side of receiver is stamped “U.S.I.D 213”, the mark of the U.S. Interior Dept., which is also known as The Bureau of Indian Affairs. Mounted in a 1-pc walnut half-stock with the oval “HN” cartouche on left side of wrist, again for Henry Nettleton. Middle band and stock have sling swivels & there is smooth, steel, carbine/musket buttplate. This is an authentic Indian Police rifle issued in period of the 1880’s and apparently saw considerable frontier service. CONDITION: Good. Bbl retains blue in sheltered areas with balance a light patina. Magazine tube retains about 90% orig blue with light surface rust. Receiver retains about 30% blue, mostly on sides. Stock has a long grain crack in right side with signs of heavy use, showing substantial saddle bow wear in front of the carrier opening, with nicks, dings & gouges.
