SPRINGFIELD/REMINGTON ROLLING BLOCK NAVY RIFLE WITH BAYONET. Cal. 50/70. NSN. 32-5/8” rnd bbl. This is the first type, with rear sight near receiver and anchor in front of rear sight. Faint “P / H.B.R” inspector marks are on left side of receiver. No cartouche is visible. Bayonet lug has come loose from bbl but is present. The 20” straight single fuller blade is marked “U.S N / G.G.S / 1870” on left ricasso with Ames 3-line marking on the right. The “G.G.S” marking is faint on top of the hilt. Scabbard is leather with brass throat and tip. Leather frog is black. CONDITION: Smooth gray patina on bbl showing signs of cleaning. Darker gray patina on action has scratches and dents. Butt has been cracked, repaired, and refinished. Forearm is orig, with minor chips at rear. Bayonet blade has been cleaned. Brass parts have a dark patina. Leather is scratched and chipped with a slight bend at tip. Frog has been modified to fit this bayonet. Edwards Collection 4-58458 FS124 (1,500-2,000)
