SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1795 MUSKET WITH BAYONET. Cal. 74. NSN. 44-5/8” rnd bbl. Marked “US / eagle / SPRINGFIELD” in a downward arc in front of cock, “1811” horizontally at rear of lockplate. Dated 1812 on tang of buttplate. Standard “US” and proof marks on left rear of bbl. Sling swivels are replacements. Mixed assembly letters on interior and exterior of lock. Hammer does not fit tumbler well. There is filing and live rust around touchhole. 14” “Z”-slot bayonet has a reinforce at rear of slot, which is broken on one side.. It is marked “SC.US” on top of blade and “S” at front of slot. “US” on left side of stock. CONDITION: Gray/brown patina overall with moderate pitting at breech. Wood shows some bleaching and chipping also at breech of bbl. Repairs have been made below lock in front of trigger guard and at wrist, which has been refinished in this area. Mechanically good.
