SCARCE HIGH GRADE CHRISTOPH FUNK DBL BBL PINFIRE SHOTGUN. Cal. 16 ga. SN 12905. Beautiful early Damascus under-lever dbl with 28-1/16″ bbls that have smooth concave tapered rib, sgl bead, with the maker’s name & “IN SUHL” in gold. Receiver, lockplates & fittings are elaborately engraved with game scenes of three gold partridge on left side of receiver, two gold pheasants on right side of receiver, a bird dog & two ducks on left lockplate, a raebuck & doe on right lockplate, an auerhaun on trigger bow & a chamois on top tang. There are silver leaves on opening lever pivot & in various vignettes. It has a steel trigger guard & horn extension/finger rest. It also has a steel reinforced horn opening lever with checkered wood forearm. Mounted with very nicely figured French walnut stock with checkered straight wrist & cheekpiece & has a 2-1/4″ extension added making an overall LOP of 15-3/8″. Includes 3 orig shells and is also accompanied by one orig & one reproduction wooden cleaning rods. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbls retain 60-70% brown finish in most of orig Damascus pattern. Receiver, lockplates & fittings are mostly silvered case colors. Opening lever has a small crack at tip, otherwise wood is sound showing moderate to heavy wear & retains 60-70% orig crazed varnish. Left hammer has been repaired. Mechanics are fine, strong bright bores. 4-57464 JR104 (2,000-3,000)
