FANTASTIC CASED PURDEY UNDERLEVER HAMMER DBL BBL SHOTGUN. Cal. 8 bore. SN 8581. Massive Damascus Purdey with 32-3/8″ fine pattern Damascus bbls, concave smooth tapered rib with sgl bead, dbl under bite with extractor, rnd action with island locks. Mounted with very beautiful streaky French walnut with full flat checkered splinter forearm with sgl wedge & straight stock, 14-3/8″ over a smooth steel buttplate. Receiver, lockplates & hammers have light patterns of fine, foliate, arabesque engraving with deep scalloped, raised relief firing pin shields. It has back action island locks with maker’s name on each side & non-rebounding hammers. Bbls have maker’s name & address on rib. Accompanied by its orig, red, felt lined leather trunk case compartmented for the shotgun, a 2-pc brass & ebony cleaning rod, a Hawksley nickel silver stuck case puller with long handle & a hook on end, a German silver ebony handled shot measure marked “JL” on bottom, an ebony reloading tool, brushes, mops & swabs, a lacquered oval cap tin, a screw top rnd wooden parts box, four extra firing pins with six or seven firing pin springs, a pair of firing pin bushings & a spare screw serial numbered to gun. Spare parts box is cardboard with ink writing on lid. There is the orig 2-tone blue, Purdey maker’s label inside lid, along with a charge card. Drop at heel: 2-1/8″, drop at comb: 1-1/2″. Bore diameter: left – .845, right – .848. Weight: 11 lbs. 6.4 oz. CONDITION: Exceptionally fine. Bbls retain virtually all of their orig beautiful chocolate brown Damascus pattern with some light thinning over forearm area. Receiver, lever, lockplates & hammers, along with top tang retain virtually all of their orig brilliant case colors. Bottom tang retains traces of case colors, having turned mostlysilver. Buttplate retains 85-88% brilliant niter blue with wear at heel & toe. Wood has a few minor handling & storage marks & retains virtually all of its fine orig oil finish. Forearm wedge retains most of its orig bright niter blue. Mechanics are crisp, brilliant shiny bores. This appears to be an unfired shotgun. Case is worn & soiled, missing both ends of lid with fading & soil inside. Label has a wear spot & oil stain, not affecting image, otherwise is crisp & clear.
