MARTIALLY MARKED NETTLETON INSPECTED CAVALRY MODEL COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY REVOLVER. Cal. 45 Colt. SN 48628. This is one of the scarce Nettleton revolvers of which there were only 3,000 produced in 1878. Usual configuration with 7-1/2″ bbl, slightly modified front sight, one line block letter address with 3-line patent address and “US” on left side of frame. It has second-type ejector rod housing with bullseye ejector rod head. It has 1-pc walnut grip. There is visible outline of an oval cartouche on right side. Nettleton’s “HN” initials are found on most of visible parts including hammer and bbl with a single “N” by ejector rod housing stud. CONDITION: Good to very good. All matching including bbl and cylinder. There is no orig finish remaining, being a mottled silver/brown patina having been cleaned a long time ago. There is light fine pitting over most surfaces. Grip is sound with slightly chipped toes showing heavy wear with hammer marks on bottom and retains a dark hand patina. Base pin is slightly battered and one or two screws have a slipped slot. Mechanics are fine. Strong bright bore and light pitting. This is apparently a hard used Colt that has had poor storage. 4-58161 (5,750-7,750)
