The buttplate is equally elaborate with the tang having a repoussed arabesque pattern and a lion with vine, leaf & grape patterns around the edges and two birds on the toe. The stock is of beautifully grained French or Circassian walnut, 1-pc. with raised carved panels around the lockplates, top & bottom tangs, wedge escutcheons & nose pipe. It has a long cheekpiece with carving at the rear edge and the bottom has an extremely elaborately carved stag’s head with an oak leaf & acorn raised wreath. The forestock and grip area of the wrist are skip-line checkered with hundreds of tiny silver tacks in the checkering. An extremely fine and very elaborate, rare percussion shotgun. CONDITION: Bbls retain most of their orig Damascus pattern turned dark. Lockplates retain traces of case colors turned silver with the balance dark patina. Hammers are dark patina. Silver furniture shows light wear. Forestock has a crack by the right bbl channel and there is a small raised chip by the buttplate, otherwise the wood is sound with a dark patina. Mechanics are fine, strong bright bores. 5-60325 JR49 (5,000-10,000)
