*SCARCE WESTLEY RICHARDS DROP LOCK ACTION DBL RIFLE. Cal. 9.3X74R. SN 16105. Beautiful high-grade dbl rifle with 24-5/8″ bbls, swamped concave top rib with pedestal mounted front sight and patented 2-position sight hood with an interchangeable caterpillar sight blade. Rear sight is mounted on a raised portion of the rib with three platinum-line leaves, one standing, two folding, marked “100”, “200” & “300” yds. It has dbl lump with doll’s head extension third bite, ejectors & dbl triggers. It is mounted with highly figured burled French walnut with checkered splinter forearm & pistol grip stock with checkered teardrop side panels & a deep cheekpiece, 14-9/16″ over a solid red pad. It has a boxlock receiver with full coverage fine English foliate arabesque pattern engraving and the maker’s name in a ribbon on each side. Top of the receiver is engraved “WESTLEY RICHARDS / EJECTOR” in an arc in front of the opening lever. Top tang has “SAFE” in gold along with “BOLTED” in gold. Stalking safety is missing. Floorplate has a large vignette of a gold bugling stag in a forest scene with a full-bodied tiger on the trigger bow. About 1/3 of the rib is engraved with very fine arabesque patterns. Grip cap is engraved and case colored and it has sling swivels on the bbl & buttstock. Bbls have the maker’s name & address on the right side and the caliber with the notation that it is “REGULATED FOR 285 GRAIN BULLET”. Bbl flats have usual proofs with the date “76” on it and the consignor states that in 1976 it was returned to Westley Richards to be re-chambered from 400/360 to its present chambering and was re-regulated and refinished at that time. Accompanied by its orig oak & leather, maroon felt-lined, trunk case compartmented for the bbls and stocked receiver. Also has a horn handled 2-pc cleaning rod and a horn handled turn screw. Also included are a pair of nickeled snap caps, a screw-top parts box, a nickeled rnd oiler and a tin of Motty rifle paste. It has the maker’s label in the lid with the pencil serial number and the date “1904”. Weight: 8 lbs, 4.8 oz. CONDITION: Extremely fine, as factory restored. Retains virtually all of this beautiful finish. Stock has one or two minor nicks in the finish and there is a tiny hairline on the left side of the forearm. Left bbl has a few light scratches. Mechanics are fine, bright shiny bores. Case is equally fine. 4-56483 JR579 (22,500-35,000)
