MARLIN BALLARD #7 LONG RANGE SGL SHOT TARGET/SPORTING RIFLE. Cal. 40-63. SN 8368. Beautiful target rifle that appears to be a #7 with 30″ oct to rnd medium weight bbl, with windage adjustable globe front sight, missing the yoke & insert. There is no provision for a rear sight and it is mounted with a mid-range vernier tang sight and a second base at the heel of the stock similar to Creedmoor style. Receiver is wonderfully engraved with vignettes of a running buck on the left side and a buffalo on the right side, all surrounded by large, extremely well executed, foliate arabesque patterns. Sides of the receiver, bottom front edge and around the top three flats all have unusual heart & dot border patterns. Top three flats also have light arabesque patterns. It is also fitted with a checkered trigger & small loop finger lever. Wood is very highly figured streaky marble cake French walnut with a carved horn tipped checkered forearm and black insert serpentine grip buttstock with a checkered hard rubber shotgun buttplate. Entire rifle, including the wood, has a heavy coating of old dried oil or wax. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbl retains 96-98% strong orig blue with only very minor edge wear. Receiver retains 30-40% faded case colors in the sheltered areas with the balance turned silver. Wood is sound with the forend horn tip missing a small splinter from the left side, otherwise all the wood has light handling & use marks and retains most of its strong orig finish. Mechanics are fine, brilliant shiny bore. Pierre Renaud Collection 4-55716 JR280 (10,000-15,000)
