RARE ENGRAVED SMITH & WESSON 2ND MODEL 38 SINGLE ACTION. Cal. 38 S&W. SN 96290. Silver & gold finish with 3-1/4″ keyhole bbl, half-moon front sight with smooth pearl grips. Frame, sides of the top strap, sides of the bbl & islands between the flutes of the cylinder are engraved with well-executed foliate arabesque patterns with punch dot background. This engraving is done in New York style, probably by the Nimschke shop but possibly factory engraved. Frame is silver plated & the cylinder is gold washed. CONDITION: Very fine. Overall retains about 90% silver plating & 85-90% gold wash, strong in the flutes, thin on the outer diameter. Grips are fine with lots of fire. Mechanics are crisp, bright shiny bore. 4-57460 JR781 (2,250-3,250)
