DRESS, BLACKFOOT, LATE 19TH CENTURY. Red trade cloth body, short “wing sleeves,” gathered skirt. Yoke profusely decorated both sides with rows of turquoise, pink, navy and white seed beads, as well as rows of green, amber, light blue, and pink “basket” beads. Thongs strung with basket beads and thimbles suspended below the yoke. Ribbon, basket bead, and thong decoration around bottom of skirt. In the late 19th, early 20th centuries, this style of dress was popular among the Blackfoot in Canada, Blackfoot in the United States – as well as the Assiniboin and Gros Ventres of the Fort Belknap Reservation, Montana. Size: 51” tall x 45” wide. CONDITION: Overall multiple small points of moth damage, small tears; some basket beads missing, ribbons frayed. 4-56970 BL82 (4,000-5,000)
