FRANK WESSON 2-TRIGGER SPORTING RIFLE. Cal. 22. SN 418. Flat sided, nickel-plated iron frame with 27-3/4″ oct bbl, German silver blade dovetail front sight and a fixed rear sight with the maker’s name and patent dates on the top flat. It has the slotted link on the left side and a manual extractor with small knurled knob on the right side. The frame has a rimfire firing pin only. The straight grip stock with slight perch belly is very nicely figured, about 2-3X, American walnut with a nickel-plated iron buttplate with faceted top tang. CONDITION: Fine. Bbl retains about 75% strong original blue with most of the missing blue from a chemical stain on the left side near the muzzle. Scattered light pitting in the same area and some fine surface etching elsewhere. Receiver, trigger guard and buttplate retain most of their original nickel-plating with a fingernail size loss on the top of the receiver and scattered spots elsewhere with some light, fine pimpling on both sides. Stock is sound with light handling and use marks and retains about 95% original varnish. Mechanics are fine, bright shiny bore with a few spots of scattered light surface erosion. 4-53685 JR978 (1,250-1,750)
